Hi, currently desperately trying to relocate to aylesbury area in time for sept school term when my son is due to start in year 7. Options are limited due to current COVID crisis, but have found somewhere to rent in Princes Risborough.
Put my school choices down as John Colet, Chiltern Hills Academy and Aylesbury Vale going mainly on offstead reports.
Now worrying if we move to princes risborough school if he would be allocated PR secondary as catchment area. Struggling to find any up to date information on the school performance, ancient offstead report says inadequate but nothing since?
Would really appreciate any advice and opinions at all on your experience of secondary schools in the Aylesbury area, and Princes Risborough schools and how the area is as a place to live.

Many thanks in advance

Laura

I grew up there and live not too far away now. I don't know about CHA or AVA but I know that the Colet is a very popular school and I think it's very unlikely you would get a place living in Risborough. PR school still does not have a good reputation, it's been struggling with head teachers in the last few years, keeps saying it's on the up and getting better but they've been saying that for the last 30 years and not much changes.

AVA seems to be hit and miss, some love it and some hate it. How would your DC get there from Risborough though, it's right out the other side of Aylesbury.
Is your son academic? Would it be worth trying for the 12+ for year 8 entry to one of the grammars? You'd need to look on the buckscc website as closing dates for entry may be soon.
Is your house in PR absolutely set in stone? I only ask because Lord Williams in Thame is a very good comprehensive, over the border in Oxfordshire so gets you out of the grammar/secondary modern split. But you'd really need to live in Thame to get to the top of the waiting list. It does have a huge intake (330) though so movement does happen.

As a place to live Risborough is nice enough. Safe, on the mainline for trains, lots going on, walkable to everywhere, lots of retired people. Supermarket small though, you'd probably want to go to Aylesbury or Wycombe for big weekly shops.

Thame is slightly bigger, nicer high street, lots of community events/festivals organised through the year but a couple of miles from the train station. Aylesbury or Wheatley for bigger supermarkets.

If you want more house for your money, head north of Aylesbury, Buckingham, Winslow, Whitchurch and surrounding villages. Or most bits of Aylesbury itself are ok too but obviously that's a much bigger town than PR and there are areas to avoid living in if you can help it.

Hi all,

My partner and I are looking
to leave london to start the next stage of our lives and move out to bucks. We have found a great house in Princes Risborough (white leaf) and we’re wondering if there are some people on here who can comment on how the town is right now? (As some of the threads on here are a little old) .Have seen there are plans for expansion in the town- how do locals feel this will affect the area? Any other noteworthy opinions ? Good or bad. All feedback appreciated. Thanks C
