i don't bank with barclays and just received a spoof email asking for details etc... and I've forwarded it to Barclays.
The email was addressed to someone with a similar email addy to me but not mine?
Has anyone else had anything similar? I've only had paypal spoofs before.

JD - I've had three within the last month and we do bank with Barclays. My concern was that the email was addressed to which bothered me a bit as I'm careful not to give our mothers maiden name to anyone other than banks

In the last 2 weeks I've had a spoof from every bank or building society I've heard of. The hackers must be on a mission or something

JuniperDewdrop · 07/10/2004 22:44

OMG this is quite scary. Jampot that's horrendous
What about those poor people who fall for it?

I've has loads of Halifax ones. They look quite realistic, with the same logo and everything, but its the bad grammar that gives them away!

80sMum · 07/10/2004 22:47

Not the bad spelling! Sorry, I meant 'had' not 'has'

It's frightening though isn't it? wondering who's watching your internet business

Yeah. I read something in the newspaper a week or so ago that all these scams are becoming a threat to the future of internet banking, because so many people are falling for them and having their accounts emptied by these fraudsters and the banks have been coughing up to compensate them.

JuniperDewdrop · 07/10/2004 23:08

I don't I-bank at all but have bought plenty of stuff online. I'm hearing more and more from friends about people shopping on their behalf online though

I had a similar one claiming to be from ebay but only relating to my ebay account. Don't have paypal or anything that could let them reach my bank details but think will check it out none the less.

I am being bombarded with mortgage ones atm (2 or 3 a day). I don't quite understand it but according to dh they have "hidden" text and if you click on them all sorts of bad things happen..I wish they would just leave me alone!

I've had them from 3 different 'banks' this week. I don't bank with any of them.

bonniej · 08/10/2004 09:07

I got one from something called 'sun bank' asking for my bank details. It wasn't even a bit realistic. I think they must be getting desperate.
