Can you let me know what your first reaction/thoughts are on this name (for soon-to-arrive dd2)?

Daphné

What's your initial reaction/what sort of person does it conjure up. We're trying to find something that works in France and England. I know how it sounds to a French person but wonder what image it conjures up to an English person. I'm a bit concerned it would end up as something awful like Daff. Also, I can't work out whether it's an upstairs or downstairs name - any views?
Fwiw the other alternative is Victoire (but dh objects as that doesn't really work in English he tells me).

I'll be interrested in hearing how it goes. I also will be looking for a job at some point, when my dds are both at school.

Anna8888 · 07/09/2007 13:14

Héloise is pretty.

Anna8888 · 07/09/2007 13:14

How old are your DDs, when do you want to start working and what sort of job?

belgo · 07/09/2007 13:14

Margot/Margeaux. Very glamourous.

lulumama · 07/09/2007 13:15

I know amelie has an accent ! tis my daughter's middle name, but i don;t know how to do an accent with the keyboard

our surname has an accent too, and is people seem to struggle with the pronunciation, so we gave her amelie as a middle name, as didn;t want her to have years and years of spelling and pronouncing her names to people......also, a lot of people said, 'emily, what a lovely name' !

belgo · 07/09/2007 13:15

Anna8888 · 07/09/2007 13:15

OK

Anna8888 · 07/09/2007 13:17

I had a junior consultant work for me called Daphné and I'm afraid the name is irrevocably linked to her

She was very good at Excel.

MrsBadger · 07/09/2007 13:18

I like it

A french/english friend had similar trouble and went for Marianne, which I think is rather nice too.

Wisteria · 07/09/2007 13:20

Francine?

WestCountryLass · 07/09/2007 13:22

Scooby Doo!

What about Elodie?

faylisa · 07/09/2007 13:24

To be honest I think she'll be known as Daff. I think it's quite an old fashioned name. How about Madeleine?

faylisa · 07/09/2007 13:24

Or Eloise?

Azure · 07/09/2007 13:25

Satine?

kittylouise · 07/09/2007 13:28

Coiffered hair, tweed suit and pearls!

EmilyDavidson · 07/09/2007 13:44

I think Daphne is a beautiful name ; its feminine and classy.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2007 13:45

It makes me think of a weak woman having fainting fits and lounging on a chaise.

Lots of other nice ones suggested. Amelie, Elise, Elodie, Eloise

SoupDragon · 07/09/2007 13:46

Victoire = boys name I think (I know it isn't but that is certainly how it will be perceived in the UK)
