Boring laundry question

My children have to wear white polo shirts to school and are constantly dropping chocolate ice cream or tomato sauce down them which then means I have to bleach them to get the stains out. Some old shirts have recently gone from white to cream. Is this because they have been bleached too much or is it just because they are old?

Have given in on this one - now just buy cheap ones and chuck out when colour goes, but m&s ones seem to keep nicer for longer.

All mine are M&S. Do you bleach your shirts sometimes? I want to know if I am causing the colour change or is it just a factor of age?

I bought M&S ones for DD1 this year - and already they look grubby, even though DD1 is a fairly "clean" child!

Very disappointed with their Polo shirts (although very happy with DS1s trousers from there) so bought another pack from Mothercare today - which I have used in the past and been happy with.

I couldn't be happier with my "5 for £7" from Asda. They have washed up really well!!!

Lots of bleaching will turn white cotton yellowish yes.

Do you know what Asdas girls school trousers are like? OK for DD1, but DD2 needs some (age 4) - can't get school uniform locally now so going to nip into Asda/Tescos tomorrow.

I have found that even after a wash the stain is still there, but when it has been hung on the line and dried it has gone. Apparently the sun makes some stains disappear. Natural bleaching I guess. I don't bother bleaching because of the discolouration. I suppose if you don't spend too much on the shirts it won't hurt too much if you have to throw them away and get new ones.
