Spellings 2 - following on from the Gateaux/s thread

My dd was given homework last week which entailed inserting the capital letters correctly into some sentences which were all given as lower case. One of these contained the words mars bar. How would you write those words correctly?

Mars Bar - because its a trade name and the manufacturers spell it like that so that makes it the right way to spell it - like eBay.

trust me to mess up the capitals in my own post - meant to be Mars bar - ooops.

wobblyknicks they normally refer to it as a 'Mars' on the ads, don't they? And on the wrapper it only says 'Mars' too. They don't really say the 'bar' bit, that's just how people commonly refer to it.

I know anorak - but am doing rubbishy typing today. Meant that as the TM is Mars there should obv be a capital for that but not for the bar as its just a description.

Well hope that makes things clear......as mud!!

Yes you're right and my dh knew it too. Dd and I didn't so I had to send dh to the nearest sweetshop to buy us one so we could have a look (yeah yeah). It does indeed only say "Mars" on it and not bar. Coincidentally there was an medical article in the Times that day written by a GP who mentioned Mars bar so dd cut it out and stuck it in her homework book as evidence.

well it depends - I'm not sure if it actually called a Mars Bar or is it just known as Mars and is a bar of chocolate.
