Hi there,

First time poster, hello!
I've written some children's books that I am eager to get published.. please offer any suggestions of publishers that i could use?

I dropped out of cambridge uni with bipolar and after many years have found my passion: writing..I owe it to myself to get at least one book published, to prove wrong the professor who told me I'd never amount to anything if I dropped out!

I'm mum to 2 great kids and want to give them something to be proud of me for..please help!

The books are topical, cute and imo, very good 🙈. I want to give it the best shot at getting published before I give up. We do not know anything about publishing and so any advice would be hugely appreciated.

With thanks,

REDHEAD

There’s a creative writing forum here where you will get more advice, but you don’t contact publishers directly, as most reputable ones don’t take unsolicited ms. You need an agent who sells children’s books of the kind you’ve written. Best place to start is the current edition of the Writers and Artists Yearbook. Once you’ve identified a list of agents to send to, look up exactly what they want in a submission package — synopsis, how much of the text, covering letter in which you will need to be very clear about genre, age group etc it’s aimed at, what other children’s books it might be like, etc. Then make sure you do that. And wait.

Probably the key thing to think about before you do any of that, though, is whether the MS is as perfect and polished as it can be. Have you revised it multiple times to tighten up plotting, characterisation etc? Have other well-read people you trust read it and have you considered their feedback seriously? An agent is unlikely to take on an MS that still needs a lot of work.

Good luck!
