Mudda's big move!

Thought it was about time I updated you all on the current goings on chez mudda.

We're moving back to Scotland from Herts in about 10 days time .

We've had an offer accepted on a gorgeous timber house on the shores of Loch Lomond in the National Park, so we'll be surrounded by forest.

We've still had no offers on our house darn sarf yet so my lovely mum and dad are taking a 2nd mortgage on their house to tide us over until it does sell - we'll still have to cover 2 mortgages though

So - in a very short time I will no longer be anywhere near Suburbia and I'll need a new name! Dh is "Muddahubby" so he'll be needing a new name too unless you creative types can think of a name that includes "mudda"!!

Also - has anyone moved with Pickfords before? They've given us a far better quote than anyone else. What do I need to get organised before the big move?

Be prepared for many more panicky posts between now and next week!

Your plans sound great and I am totally jealous!! We have used Pickfords twice and they were fab. They were unbelievably quick - the house was emptied in quicktime and I to this day have never seen anybody else run with our wardrobes!! The second time we used their packing service so I organised nothing - just made sure the dishwasher was empty . First time I remember getting their cardboard boxes and packing everything up into rooms and labelling well!! I left out emergencies for when we got there (loo roll, wine, duvets you can tell this was pre-kids!) but apart from this I can't recall doing anything special tbh. Hope this helps....

muddaofsuburbia · 03/10/2004 21:46

Oh you lucky, lucky thing - sounds wonderful! I like MuddaHutta and McMudda

soapbox · 03/10/2004 21:55

Oooh - I was brought up about 5 minutes drive away from Loch Lomond and used to go there all the time for picnics etc. Which side of the Loch is your house on??

Lucky you - so near Glasgow as well - so you'll still be able to get to the 'big shops' as they are known

muddaofsuburbia · 03/10/2004 21:57

Soapbox - east side of the Loch - near Balmaha.

OH lovely - used to love doing the forest walks round there. And often used to cycle to Rowerdenen with my friends when first allowed to go Youth Hostelling - used to feel sooooo grown up!

You'll not be too far from Stirling either - shops there are good if don;t fancy Glasgow. Also Stirling Castle is a lovely family day out.

You say you're moving back - have you stayed in Balmaha before?

soapbox · 03/10/2004 22:06

BTW - think McMudda is very very good. WE caould always call you Mrs Mac - from take the high road (think it was only a soap in Scotland)...

Toothache · 03/10/2004 22:30

Hey Mudda!! I'll be comin up to your log cabin in the summer for a baaaaarbee!

We MUST get a Scottish meet-up organised.

So happy you're moving back here... I know how much you've missed your native land. And who can blame you, it's fab !

Skate · 03/10/2004 22:38

I like McMudda!!

Posted on the other thread re house moving - we are in same position as you McMudda (). We haven't got an offer on our house yet so we are moving anyway and will have to cover 2 mortgages (we are buying my parents house). Will be a financial nightmare for a while but worth it for the bigger house and to get ds1 into the excellent school nearby. Just can't wait till Jan to move, but REALLY hope we get a buyer soon. Has the market died everywhere?!? We are in a very desirable location and house is all fairly recently decorated so not sure why no viewers .

Good luck with your move - your new home sounds amazing you lucky, lucky woman!!!

muddaofsuburbia · 03/10/2004 22:48

I'm a Glaswegian through and through and my family are all still in Glasgow, never lived outside the city, so it'll be a real life changing experience. the central heating is fired by the log fire in the lounge so i'll be sending dh out with an axe - ooer! We'll be about 40 mins away from family - much better than being 7 hours away atm.

Toothache!! I must have missed you posting - how's your new dd? Hopefully we can meet up in the not too distant future?

DD's fantastic thanks Mudda! How's your boy? Lookin forward to hearing his Scottish accent develop? Definitely need a meet-up organised.

muddaofsuburbia · 04/10/2004 16:20

Eek - update already. My parent's offer has fallen through because their bank is not the same as our mortgage lender. We've only come up with one lender who will approve a mortgage on a wooden house. Big miracle would be nice in the next 6 days...

Kayleigh · 04/10/2004 16:48

oh muddaofsuburbia, will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I also like McMudda and I look forward to meeting McMuddahubby at the "Watford/Herts Ladies travel North" meet-up

muddaofsuburbia · 18/10/2004 13:50

Right - new move date is 15th November.

So that gives us a few more weeks to get rid of our house. Even the estate agent can't understand why it hasn't had any offers yet. They don't even think we should lower the price.

2 mortgages and a bridging loan from my parents will be interesting to pay off though - bread and cheese for us for the next few months unless this house sells.

What else can we do to sell this house?????

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 18/10/2004 13:55

Your new home sounds idyllic How fabulous is that?

muddaofsuburbia · 18/10/2004 13:59

It is a gorgeous house. I'm so impatient at the moment I just want to be there NOW. But I also don't want this potentially massive debt hanging round us for months to come. Neither do my parents for that matterr

OP posts:
muddaofsuburbia · 21/10/2004 14:41

Skate - don't know if you've followed me here yet...

Dh worried me a little the other day when he said, out of the blue, "I don't think we'll move on the 15th either". We don't actually know for sure whether our sellers have had their offer accepted with that proposed entry date. If it is accepted, then because it's in Scotland it will stand, therefore so will our entry date. I hate the waiting game. And I still can't believe our house hasn't sold yet .

So jealous McMudda (gotta keep that names, it's great . I loved Loch Lomon and Loch Katrine, it's soooo beautiful. I've used Pickford too, well a local firm that are part of the group. Very good they were too and the most reasonable, tho still expensive iyswim.

DelGirl · 21/10/2004 15:29

What will you be doing up there btw, if you dont mind me askinh?
