can anyone recommend an accountant?

I'm looking for an accountant who will handle small company accounts over the phone/by email and is reasonably priced. Dh is an IT consultant and the past year was so quiet we did it all ourselves (just paid huge fines for all the stuff we didn't do on time/filled in wrong etc). Work has finally picked up again so can't muddle through on our own anymore. There are plenty advertising on contractor websites, but I could do with a personal recommendation. Thanks.

Hi geekgrrl, my DH is an accountant and runs his business from home, he is able to work for clients all over the country as he communicates mostly by phone/email we are going on holiday in a few days but if you think he could help his e-mail address is jason@abc-fife(dot)co(dot)uk (although as I said we are going on holiday and if you are interested it would be best to mail him this weekend to guarantee a reply before we go away.)

Here is his website here .

I use Upper Street Accounts in Islington, and they are very good. I like the fact that it's a female-run business too, which always makes me feel that she knows where I'm coming from . Except she's more organised than me, obviously.

Do any of the accountants recommended know US tax laws as well? We're going to need an accountant who knows both US and UK tax law (and this year Swiss as well, argh) very soon.

Thanks.

Hi, my accountant somehow manages to provide a really personal and friendly service whilst being a partner in a big firm that can handle all aspects of tax incl international stuff. I got her on personal recommendation from another freelance journalist and so far have recommended 3 friends, one of whom had international tax stuff to sort out. She's called Joanne Cook and works for a firm called CLB on 0207 242 2444

Arabica! Thank you! Have just seen this - don't know why I didn't follow it up before. Must be a brain cloud.

Talked to her and she is super nice and we have an appointment next Wednesday. :) YAY! Thanks again.
