I've been on loads, good points: cheap/if you go to somewhere you've been before you know its good/if you go somewhere you've never been before and its rubbish you don't feel as bad as you would if you'd shelled out loads of money/if you go on dates outside of school hols you stand a good chance of getting assigned better accomodation (we've had luxury caravans instead of the basic ones you'd expect)

bad points - look out for possible added extras - service charges/linen etc - sometimes it can end up costing almost as much as it you'd booked and paid brochure price - although the extra charges are clearly stated in the booked form etc.

Go for it we've been on at least one a year for the last 8 or 9 years

Depends on the site, we tend to use them as a base to explore the area rather than staying on site ,, jsut cos I don't like the sites. I never do the bedding and very rarely do the entertainment passes which takes quite a lot off the price.

charliecat · 03/09/2007 18:24

I have did one in april and have one booked for oct half term.
Great for £68, it would be well over £200 from the brocure, not worth it at all.
But well worth the £68.

Make sure you buy todays paper softmusk, to be in with a chance of getting a decent holiday. Will pop back later with more advice [veteran sun holidayer]

Been on one express one and one sun one. It was all good - I mean the sites can be a bit run down but that's the same as if you booked it from the brochure. First one we ended up with us and two littlies being allocated an upgraded FOUR bedroom lodge, it was huge and a lovely site (Warmwell in Weymouth) and the second time it was a two bedroom 'villa' also very spacious, and access to no less than four indoor swimming pools in the immediate vicinity. Also the kids entertainment/discos etc was quite fun. That was in Woolacombe and the weather was glorious funnily enough the best holiday memories for ages. The thing I've always worried about is being allocated one with one bedroom and a pull out sofa-bed, which technically can happen (before arrival they tell you dates and site and tell you which types of accommodation you might get, but don't confirm until arrival). Has anyone with kids ever had this? I wonder if they allocate the smaller ones to couples on their own.

charliecat · 03/09/2007 19:26

I had pullout sofa bed and 1 twin bedroom.
Glad to get home to my bed but otherwise fine.

details here

According to the website the first token was on Saturday, so see if you can blag one if you know any sun readers. The sooner you get your form in, the better chance you have of getting one of your dates. Browse the sites, they are on the website, and have a look at the accommodation. Usually you get allocated the most basic caravan, and then get the opportunity to upgrade at a price. Bear in mind that the vans without central heating can be freezing in late october/november.

What part of the country were you thinking of going to softmusk?
