I have, and its rubbish, it starts smoking from the top............hmm perhaps it needs a clean

ProfYaffle · 02/09/2007 19:38

I've got one but never used the grill. Can't think of anything that would require microwaving and grilling at the same time. Maybe I'm just dim

Can't you? I thought that was the whole point, cooking stuff quicker but browning it at the same time.

professorplum · 02/09/2007 19:54

I reckon mine could do 4 slices of cheese on toast. I have a grill in my oven but I never use it because it is toddler grasping hand height and my dcs would snatch the food right out. Mainly use microwave grill for fish fimgers. you can do ffingers and waffles for 2 kids. It doesn't burn stuff and it turns itself off. Requires no supervision.

I've a Zanussi - would have to look at it to see which model but it could do all that. I use it for cheese on toast mainly

They make brilliant jacket spuds - dead quick but with brown skin

Also good for heating frozen ready meals, esp gratins. (Mine has a gratin setting so the grill goes on and off and browns the top)

My old microwave (the one that nearly burnt the house down last week) had a grill and it didn't really seem to do anything (despite reading the instructions thoroughly and trying on several occasions). However my new one has one and since my toaster is broken I tried using it for toast and it was pretty good - I can only do 2 slices at a time...but it's a tiny microwave so only space for 2 (it's only big enough to just fit one dinner plate). First side took about 4 minutes (only a 700w one too so not very "quick") 2nd about 2 minutes.....which compared to the time it takes for the grill in the electric oven to heat up is still quicker than using that,

RubberDuck · 02/09/2007 22:32

I have one - but you know what ... I never ever USE it - only the bog standard microwave functions.

Oh okay - once in a blue moon I do a jacket potato... then crisp it up in the oven anyway.

What a complete waste of money that was...

twinsetandpearls · 02/09/2007 22:36

have one and have never used it.

oops - only "extra" I had with both microwaves I've owned that had grills was a little "stand" thingymajig.

KTeePee · 03/09/2007 08:32

I had one and never used the grill because it took too long to warm up - then when I had kids the grill thing meant that most baby's bottles were too tall to fit inside....

anniebear · 03/09/2007 12:39

another one who has 1 but never used it lol

Never bothered tor ead thr instructions 9which will now be lost lol)

must just add I used my last night when I made apple crumble - I already had the fish and chips in the oven and wanted to get it all done in the same time period - so popped the crumble in the microwave and it came out lovely

Mumpbump · 04/09/2007 17:05

We have a Belling one that only cost about £60 and is really good. Also has a built-in fan oven...
