what is spam?

basically i emailed someone a link of something i had seen that i thought might interest them.

in the email i put i hope you don't mind me contacting you but i saw this and thought you might like to have a look. tbh i thought i was being helpful.

she replied saying that's spam you know. i will be reporting you to all the relevant authorities. how dare you, who do you think you are.

at first i thought she was joking, but they were no smileys or any indication to show that it was perhaps a joke so i'm not sure.

so is she right? is that spam?

I wouldn't class that as spam - unless it was something in which you had a vested interest.

Either she has a dry sense of humour or is a tad oversensitive.

fwiw imo spam is sent on a commercial basis to lots and lots of people.

mine was sent to two people who i thought would be interested and was not of any profitable interest to me.
