While we're on books and music, any other cinephiles out there? Have just come back from seeing Almodovar's Talk to Her, anyone else seen it?

Saw The Dish on Sky recently - really lovely, gentle, v funny Aussie film and worth seeing.
Re past propositions - Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy once offered to scrub my back when I was having a bath..... which hardly rates alongside Clive Owen, but then again, I was only nine (and sharing the bath with my bestfriend. He was a friend of the family) so I suppose it doesn't really count at all....
Oh life in the 70's was so far out.

Ewan Mcgregor carried dd and her buggy up the stairs of a London restaurant for me. Aaah.

I once went out on the p**s with Lisa Stansfield.

And my sister and I got chatted up by two blokes from Hollyoaks once, hers was Jambo and mine was that quite gorgeous one who is marrying that bint from S Club 7.

It's OK KS, I've been hugely entertained by reading about everyone's encounters with gorgeous celebrities!
So Citizen Kane then...

It's a weekly column in the Guardian, Fionn, where a host (called Chris I think) introduces a sensible topic and then various really stupid characters (can only think of LadeezMan at the mo) have a conversation on Ali G lines in utter chaos...you can read it on the internet, go to www.guardian.co.uk and put LadeezMan in the search box and you should get some old ones.

Thanks for enlightening me - I gave up reading papers on becoming a mother and only buy it about twice a year. No excuse any more really, I have got time to read a paper about once a week. I'll look it up on the website!

ks - I was staying the night at my bestfriend's house (yes, we are still best friends which is kinda sweet) and Phil was there. He was a friend of her dad's - who was also a musician.

Sobernow, I regret to say that Jude has seen me (and the rest of the Temple Girls/Yokelettes etc) in our undergarments. He was a frequent uninvited visitor to the women's dressing room during the run. Favourite location, under the make-up table, the little tinker. I have seen him in tights, though. Shame about Clive's unpromising young persona, he has made up for it in spades since.
Janh, he had lines. We just sang and danced.

Enid · 07/09/2002 09:16

Marina - have you seen Croupier with Clive Owen? Very underrated here but an excellent film to watch on video. I think it did really well in the US.

janh · 07/09/2002 11:42

Marina, I forgot that Babes in the Wood is an actual panto - dur! - haven't been to one for years. (Plus I have lost about half my marbles already...)

He hid under the table in the ladies dressing room at SIX???? Very precocious!

Marina · 07/09/2002 17:48

Enid, I am planning to catch up on my film viewing over the next couple of weeks, and Gosford Park and Croupier are both on the list. I expect I might also force myself to watch something without Clive Owen in! Croupier has already been recommended by another friend, it seems so odd (given the drivel currently gracing local cinemas) that it did not get a better distribution.

Rhubarb · 24/09/2002 14:32

Thanks for those who recommended The Mothman Prophecies! After reading on here how scary it was meant to be, I thought that sounds just the sort of movie for me! It was brilliant! Now going to find out about this true story it was based on - very intriguing!

Enid · 24/09/2002 14:45

Ooh, I might get that out tonight Rhubarb.

Went to the cinema to see Insomnia on Friday - a bit disappointing as I was expecting it to be very twisty and turny like Momento (directed by same man) but it was quite straightforward. Still, it was beautifully shot, with great acting, even from Robin Williams (my pet hate).

Enid · 24/09/2002 14:46

We really enjoyed Croupier, especially dp (as you get to see Alex Kingston of ER fame with her kit off). Unfortunately no nudie Clive Owen

Joe1 · 24/09/2002 15:08

Dh bought me the Grease DVD yesterday, watched it twice already.

Anyone seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? It was slight, but very funny - worth seeing

Willow2 · 24/09/2002 22:19

Saw Moulin Rouge on Sky and loved it - completely mad, very surreal, incredible sets, hysterical reworkings of pop hits - hubby hated it.

Also Road to Perdition - beautiful to look at, quite a good story but characters never rang true. Tom Hanks is supposedly this cold calculating killer - but frankly he could have been on the road to Sainsburys. And Jude Law was embarassing. The Godfather for the noughties this aint. Newman was good though - but then he's class. Having said that I did enjoy the movie, it is visually wonderful - although anyone who's seen American Beauty will feel a touch of deja vu as Mendes utilises a lot of the same tricks - but it could have been so much better.

GRMUM · 25/09/2002 09:07

I would also recomend My Big Fat Greek Wedding Its very funny. Here in Athens it has everybody rolling around.Specially us that have been through these things!!! Rozzy should definitely go and see it.Was your brother put through any of that Rozzy????

Lizzer · 25/09/2002 10:31

Willow2-LOL 'the road to sainsbury's!!!"
Watched Vanilla Sky the other night on DVD (happy that boyfriend owns such devices along with wide-wotsit tv and lots of speakers all over the room in whatever-you-call-it sound. But, truth be told, I'm more at ease with a portable hooked up to an old video machine!!)I loved Tom Cruise as David Aames - its a total journey of a film, taking your head all over the place before the truth is revealed. I thought Penelope Cruz was great too, even though I wanted to hate her on sight for being so bloomin' enigmatic all over the place!
Tried to watch Black Hawk Down on Sunday night but promptly fell asleep after 20 mins. War films just cannot keep me awake for love nor money...

lilibet · 25/09/2002 16:52

Has anyone seen a film called Frailty with Bill Paxton?

SoupDragon · 25/09/2002 21:00

The Bourne Identity was pretty enjoyable. Also (very sad this one) Thunderpants, a children's film about a boy with a terrible wind problem. I'm embarrassed to admit I laughed out loud on a plane at this one!!

Rhubarb · 25/09/2002 21:34

Anyone seen that one about crop circles yet, I'm wondering whether to go to the effort of hiring a babysitter so we can see it. It sounds our sort of film - supernatural, scary, sinister, etc, but it has Mel Gibson in it.
