I moved in with my partner and his parents almost a year ago now after being forced out of my parents home. I became pregnant with my partners baby and my parents want me to move back. I feel they are emotionally blackmailing me into doing so as they say they will fully financially support me and baby but refuse to let partner move with me as they disapprove of him. My partner and his parents have no problem with me being here and also have suggested turning the spare room into a nursery. How do i tell my parents to back off and that im staying with my babies father / my partner. Sad

I’m guessing you don’t have a good relationship with them? Tell them thanks but you’re absolutely fine where you are and you’d rather not split up your soon to be family.

@Berrylove no im not. They are very strict and religious. They do not approve of my partner and never listen to me saying that im wrong or even though im this age im mentally a lot younger and need only their support and that my partner can't provide for me at all but he is great and they just wont listen.

Can you arrange for all of you to go somewhere neutral like out for lunch one weekend and talk everything through together, maybe they just need time to get to know him and realise this is what you want and you'd like them to be part of you and your family instead of him being accepted as part of their family.

Hmm, sounds like my parents with my DSis - they persuaded her to go home when she was pregnant and turned out they were right about the useless waste of space him. Is there a reason they dont like him, are they worried about you, are you both young?

widds99 · 05/12/2019 20:03

@Cornish2 thats a really good idea i just spoke it through with my partner and we came up with a half and half living situation so im half with him half with my parents so its equal we will be going for coffee tomorrow to discuss it with them.

@Overdueanamechange they are religious and he is not so they dont like him because of that and also because according to them he cannot support me but i know otherwise. We have come up with a win/win situation so hopefully my parents will agree

@widds99 like Cornish said, perhaps all you can both do is bide your time and prove them wrong.
