Sponsoring children

We sponsor a child in South America through www.plan-international.org/and would like to send a small gift for her and/or her family. It needs to be small and light (we've previously sent stickers and a skipping rope) and not expensive as this is not encouraged. Would like it to be useful as well as something that will appeal to a five year old. Any ideas please?

It is difficult when you can't send much and with it having to be light. We sponser a child too and it is hard trying to think of things to send.

T shirts are within the Plan weight limit. The best thing we ever sent was a blow up globe. Also a recorder, mouth organ, one of those tiny key ring ELD torches, light weight school bag and those plastic mugs with their names on in raised letters if you can find the name of course. All these things are in the weight limit and have got through via Plan for us in the past.

Some great ideas here - especially liking balloons and a blow up globe. Sorry, I forgot to say that we had sent crayons already too but a notebook would be good.

Slowreader - do you mean like a gym bag? Another good idea and will remember that when she starts school.

Thanks all - any more ideas? Would especially welcome more suggestions of things that you have sent that proved successful irl.
