Blardy estate agents...

So I'm bathing the boys tonight and there's a knock at the door, which I ignore, and they ring the bell and knock again and so I stomp down looking grumpy (wasn't expecting anyone) and it's some viewers which the estate agents hadn't told me about!

Wasn't sure what to do so I let them in with lots of apologies for the state of the house - I normally spend a couple of hours hiding/tidying stuff, so this is what they got to see:

  1. Flea spray out on the table - nice...
  2. A very pesto-y kitchen, not tidied up 'cos I do that after ds's have gone to bed.
  3. 2 very boisterous ds's in the bath splashing around.
  4. Our very messy clothes strewn everywhere bedroom.

Grr. Estate agents are getting a very pissed off call tomorrow and I'm not expecting an offer from the viewers...

Would hope they got a lovely family feel and it helps to sell the house. Hate the fact that people think they have to see a house looking immaculate it's so false etc etc etc! Fingers crossed for you! Oh yes scream at estate agents tomorrow!

Hmm - lovely family feel or piles of junk everywhere and flustered Dottydot trying to sort out noisy boys in the bath!

The house has been on the market for 8 months now and we're despairing... Ironically the bathroom was also full of new tiles and grout and paint 'cos we're getting it done up tomorrow!

Sure they weren't trying it on ? I'd have apologised and said no tbh. ime EA's have absolutely no concept of evening family chaos and why that may not be conducive to productive viewings

Dottydot · 14/08/2007 22:05

I know - and I felt a bit daft afterwards letting complete strangers in the house... However dp is at work this evening - due back in 10 minutes and it did occur to me that the Estate Agents might have let her know and she forgot to tell me... Will find out very soon!

Oh we had this too. I stressed that I would not accept any viewings unless the agent had spokne to me in person about it - leaving an ansaphone message was not enough. It's a nightmare when you've got LOs, quite apart from the mess there's naptimes ("sorry, you can't view that room right now" ) and making sure the nappy bin has been emptied before the viewers enter.

I did actually send some viewers away once. I apologised directly to them, and tore a strip off the agent there and then. It was a completely impossible time for them to view!

Dottydot · 14/08/2007 22:09

I know - I've had 2 viewings where ds2 has been asleep - although that's not the estate agents' fault. He's 3.4 but still seems to need a day time nap about once or twice a week and takes himself off to bed at any time between 1pm - 5pm for a snooze! Very sweet but not conducive to showing viewers round (DD now realising why the house hasn't sold...).

Sigh. I wanted to have moved to a house with a garden by this summer. Be lucky if it's Christmas at this rate.

I actually encouraged the kids to shout and scream in the background one day when the EA tried to persuade me to do an evening viewing at short notice . I think he took the point

twinklylottie · 14/08/2007 22:13

had opposite problem here this evening. agent rang at 5pm saying someone wanted to view our house today.....eek I was in middle of feeding DCs and the house needed tidying so I agreed that he could come at 7pm (and would delay the dcs bedtime). DP not home until 6.50pm so FLEW round the house frantically tidying and flinging stuff in cupboards. 7pm and dcs are bathed and ready for bed, DP home and house lovely and tidy etc.......7.30pm and still no flipping viewer...he never turned up so hacked off!!!

Dottydot · 14/08/2007 22:15

ooh - that happened to me on Sunday. Dp works all day Sunday so I spent 2 hours like a mad thing going through the house cleaning and tidying and it looked brilliant - I was knackered, the kids were sat on the settee not playing with anything (I tell them to sit tidily!!) and the sodding viewer didn't turn up

I swear if we ever do sell this flipping house I'm not moving again...

We had our share of those too twinklelottie, Nothing worse than trying to restructure your kids routine around a viewing, clean up , de-food smell the kitchen etc.

Dottydot · 14/08/2007 22:17

And the house next door has just gone up for sale - same price as ours with 1 less bedroom, but is minimalistic chic - the owner's single with no children and the house looks bloody fantastic from the website . Bet it sells within weeks.

Aarrgghhh!!

well if the EA rings tomorrow with some excuse from him and he wants to come again I'm going to really feel like saying no, tough, he should have come when he said he was going to....

LIZS · 15/08/2007 09:03

Have you called yet DD ?

Dottydot · 15/08/2007 12:21

Just spoke to them - they were insistent that the viewer hadn't made a booking! They phoned the viewer though and she was insistent she had...

I grumbled a bit but it's a bit tricky - don't want to get on the wrong side of them as I need them to sell my house.

Hi Dottydot

Sounds fimiliar. We want to rent a house because our landlord gave us notice - wants to sell.

We went to view a house on Monday - we arrived with the estate agent. Knocked and the lady opened the door. She wasn't told that we were coming to view the property. She let us in but was feeding her 4 kids and apologised for the house. We felt so bad - I apologised the hole time we were there!

Saterday we were to go and see 2 houses. Estate agents phoned and said they don't have the keys!

This morning we had to go and see another house - waited and waited. Phone the agency and they said (after about 10 min) Oh sorry, the estate agent is sick today. we can just go and knock on the door and ask the people if we can view their home.
