How do I remove vomit?????

DD has just chucked up serious amounts of very red, very smelly vomit, I've cleaned up the worst of it with soapy water and Dettox but I can see that it's going to stain and it's probably going to smell too! How can I shift this? The covers aren't removable (pre-dd, I wouldn't make the same mistake again).

Will have a think about this TP but why is it red?

Use a specialist shampoo first. Then, when dry, sprinkle with bicarb of soda, leave for a while then vacuum up. Works like magic and gets rid of all smells!!

Carla, it's red because of the strawberry smoothie I treated her to in Starbucks this morning!

Liquid ammonia diluted with water gets rid of smells as does any vinegar (but don't use malt or red wine vinegar if using it on a white surface!) dilted in water.

Someone recommend using washing powder (normal bio kind) to break down the vomit. My ds recently puked in dh's car and it leaked all over the car upholstery. I diluted some washing powder in warm water and dabbed it on with paper towel. I let it sit for a short while and then scrubbed it off with a scrubbing brush, rinsing frequently. It worked!! Car did not smell of vomit at all afterwards.

Thank you ladies. Well, I scrubbed it with upholstery cleaner, let it dry, and although it doesn't smell anymore (thank God) it looks awful. The red has gone (note to self: no more smoothies in Starbucks) but there's a big tide mark all around the area - and it was a huge area - and the area itself is off-colour too.

Next time I'm buying a sofa with removable, washable covers!
