just started to put it on (this week) for evenings and mornings. Not during the day so far. I hate CH too.

BooMama · 22/09/2004 15:23

Just put it on this afternoon. Will only put it on for a couple of hours at a time. It's very cold here today and we all got caught up in the rain this morning so have put it on low. It smells like hot dust in here now!

fio2 · 22/09/2004 15:23

we havent got any, so no!

OldieMum · 22/09/2004 15:42

We put it on this Monday. We would have put it on earlier, but a fuse had blown on the switch and we had to get it fixed.

sweetkitty · 22/09/2004 15:49

I put it on this morning (was hoping to hold out to October as well) but thought I had better out it on with a new babe in the house. I prefer to put it on but open the windows slightly so some fresh air is getting in.

We have loads of arguments in this house as DP is naturally very warm (he is only sleeping with a sheet still) and I am cold blooded.

littlemissbossy · 22/09/2004 15:49

don't usually put the heating on for long tbh, can't stand being constantly warm - but admit to bringing some logs in today to light the fire if need be winter has definately arrived today!

muddaofsuburbia · 22/09/2004 15:53

On today, but I would have had it on last month if dh would let me I really feel the cold (mild Raynauds S I think), but dh just tells me to put a jumper on.

What's this October fixation? Why is it important to make it until then? Have I missed something? Is it like off peak phonecalls that kick in after 6pm??

BooMama · 22/09/2004 16:10

Made me laugh out loud re October cut off!
I wish we had a fire instead of central heating. Would be much cosier.

JuniperDewdrop · 22/09/2004 16:13

Got mine on today as it's cold but not on too high.
noddy5 have you tried those things you hang on radiatiors with water in? Maybe it would help your headaches if the air was moist?

Avalon · 22/09/2004 16:14

noddy5 - Dry heat gives me headaches too. I use those humidity things that you hang on radiators.

noddy5 · 22/09/2004 16:15

thanks everyone!I have put it on v low to try it out as we are in a new house and it smells like an old book shop but ds says his room is cosy so thats that!

snap avalon!!

BooMama · 22/09/2004 16:43

I have one of those things that hangs off radiators in our bedroom and I put lavender oil into the water - lovely... I'll just go and top it up for sweet smells.

lilibet · 22/09/2004 16:45

Put it on yesterday - it's bloody freezing! Not given in and started wearing tights yet tho' Hate the things but my blue legs are very unattractive!

beachyhead · 22/09/2004 16:46

I'm so jealous - I'm moving next Tuesday into a house we have been doing up for two years AND THE RADIATORS HAVEN'T ARRIVED YET!!!!!!! and the man from Transco says he'll try to ge a gas main in in time and I have dd7 and ds3 and dd already has a cold!!!! Oh and there are no carpets and no kitchen.... count your blessings!!!! and no washing machine

Aero · 22/09/2004 16:54

Is it just me who isn't feeling the cold yet? Haven't felt the need for ours to be on yet, though have needed a jacket outdoors.

BooMama · 22/09/2004 17:02

Oh poor you Beachyhead! DH and I keep thinking that we would like to do a Grand Designs or big renovation and are under the illusion that we would be able to cope living without basics just because we managed it once pre-children. The practicalities must be awful! Wrap up well!

beachyhead · 22/09/2004 17:14

I am resigned to being smelly and cold until half term..... but living with heaving builders in my basement (pnarr pnarr). I'm more worried about what will happen when they DO crank up the heating - this house has not been lived in for about 50 years... the smells of yesteryear will come wafting out!!! along with all the mice probably

helsi · 22/09/2004 17:16

Just had it on in the evening once this week - I too try and last until October as I am tight and hate to spend money earlier than I need to .
I just tell them all to put a pair of socks and jumper on

monkeygirl · 22/09/2004 17:38

Can anybody tell me where you can get one of those things you hang off a radiator please?

We've had ours on for two days - I'm convinced that's why baby slept better last night.

BooMama · 22/09/2004 18:04

Sorry, ours was second hand. It's a flat cylindrical shape made out of china with a metal hook at the top. If you could find one definitely try the lavender in the baby's room as it's supposed to aid sleep. I heard of one mother who used scented candles in the babies room - I hoped she blew them out before leaving the room!
