Aloha/ Pam T, we did the sliced up Mars bar too!! Watching old Gene Kelly/ Doris Day/ Cary Grant(swoon) movies!

Also, first crush definitely Starskey, posters from Jackie all over my (purple) walls!

John Noakes and Shep my all time favourite presenters.

Had a ssquirmel too! Sadly squirmed its way into a cup of tea! Was never the same after that!!!

If you've no idea what I'm on about, check out the last few days on the Child of our time thread!

It's just come back to me - Pork Pie hat. How I, the girl who sent birthday cards to most of Madness, (there, I've admitted it) could forget that I don't know.

aloha · 29/08/2002 23:40

I think I probably looked v stupid, but looking back, I'm so glad I wore stupid clothes when I had the body for it. Three stone on, I'm more Mrs Boden (with a dash of Ghost) and I'd rather die than of pull on my old white (WHITE!!) polka-dot lycra hipster tube skirt and wearing it with a top that came halfway down my ribcage and, oh yes, flat lycra and rubber wedge sandals. Funny thing is, I still felt quite podgy most of the time. Bloody hell, why do you feel old and fat when you are young and thin? What a waste. Did anyone else wear a scarf tied around their head Mrs Mopp style? Make dresses out of old chintz curtains (very Scott Crolla, I thought), or get their hair 'experimentally' done at Vidal Sasson hairdressing school? I once got a cut so radical and dreadful, the local coffee bar refused to serve me. Whether they thought I was a punk or a prostitute I don't know. Probably the latter.

aloha · 29/08/2002 23:41

I'm honestly not drunk, I just can't type properly this evening...

CAM · 30/08/2002 11:36

Aloha. I had a fantasic(!) black and white striped shirt from PX, new romantic style, ie. lots of excess material. I saw Michael Clark dance at Oxford MOMA on his first tour, but sadly have to admit I first danced to Through the Grapevine at a gruesome youth club in the late 60's or very early 70's.

Enid · 30/08/2002 12:35

aloha - we did much the same, my best friend had proper Worlds End (what was that shop called that Vivienne Westwood had with the backwards clock?) boots and that t-shirt with the tube going from one boob to another.

I had a BodyMap skirt with holes cut out of the side and a top from PX! Also had scarves in hair, big round white dangly earrings and basically thought I was the Bs. Went to the mud club too and Philip Sallon was there wearing a dress made out of loo rolls.

LOL star! My sister was singing that to me on the phone yesterday because I couldn't get a babysitter and join her at the pub.

Star, am about to give up too. Will post on the giving up thread when I have. Keep it up, well done!

Enid · 30/08/2002 13:53

I first heard that on the Gary Crowley show on Capital radio, and wrote to Whams record company. Consequently I have a signed photo of George and Andrew with personal messages and little drawings on. It was my pride and joy for ages.

www and star, good luck, I gave up 3 years ago and its bloody hard.

Star, WWW and all you other mature ladies I must say a big thank you for cheering me up on a miserable day at work by making me feel young again.

PamT · 30/08/2002 15:14

So much for England winning the world cup, I think our parents had other things on their minds in 66! That's when I was born too and I find it really scarey that this birthday will make me nearer 40 than 30

PamT · 30/08/2002 15:17

SH, your posting just appeared whilst I was posting mine so I didn't read it beforehand. I suppose I am classed as a 'mature lady' too! Cheeky rat, you can go off people you know! There'll be no more flirting with you, I don't want to be accused of cradle snatching

SimonHoward · 30/08/2002 15:20

PamT

I was always told to look to older women with experience to learn things and I do (so back to the flirting please) and I can hardly be accused of being young enough to be a toyboy.

PamT · 30/08/2002 15:39

Oh but SH, the damage has been done! You'll have to start a new flirting thread if you want any more now and hope that someone visits it. I'm sulking - I don't want to be 'mature'.

CAM · 30/08/2002 17:53

PamT and SH, I've caught you two at it again! Did anyone used to go to Camden Palace? I remember seeing Boy George (who we knew was a boy!) and George Michael (before he was gay IYKWIM!)in the star bar there. SH what did you do when you were young, then, sorry I mean even younger than you are now?

SimonHoward · 30/08/2002 18:17

CAM

Not sure exactly what you want to know.

What age do you want me to tell you about?

MandyD · 30/08/2002 19:15

Enid - Vivien Westwood's shop was called 'Seditionaries', prior to that it was 'Sex', at the time the Pistols first met Malcolm McLaren there.

CAM I used to go to the Camden Palace - once bumped into Steve Strange in the ladies loo. Also used to go to the Cafe de Paris where I saw Rupert Everett escorting Bianca Jagger and a club in Wardour Street whose name escapes me. That's going to annoy me now, anyone know which one I mean?

aloha · 30/08/2002 22:50

Born 1963. EXTREMELY depressed to be a mature lady.

I wish I still had my Eighties clothes. I loved that 40s Demob thing. Great shop in Carnaby Street with a barbers in it. Mind you I got my hair cut elsewhere in Soho - v v trendy place but I can't remember the name. Anyone know where I mean? I got so drunk at the Groucho once I fell all the way donw the stairs and had to be taken home by my boyfriend.

jodee · 30/08/2002 23:03

bettys - the WAG, maybe?

MandyD · 30/08/2002 23:08

Possibly the Marquee? Took me a while to think of it LOL!

aloha · 30/08/2002 23:24

Yes, the Wag Club, near the Leicester Square end. And then on to Trafalgar Square for a dodgy burger and the night bus home...
