Aloha/ Pam T, we did the sliced up Mars bar too!! Watching old Gene Kelly/ Doris Day/ Cary Grant(swoon) movies!

Also, first crush definitely Starskey, posters from Jackie all over my (purple) walls!

John Noakes and Shep my all time favourite presenters.

Had a ssquirmel too! Sadly squirmed its way into a cup of tea! Was never the same after that!!!

If you've no idea what I'm on about, check out the last few days on the Child of our time thread!

You did a semi colon and a closing bracket. Snake bites were cider and lager weren't they? I want to be 15 again!

Bozza · 27/08/2002 12:05

I always wanted a puffball but never got one. I had the velour pedalpushers though. And leg warmers. And orange socks. And a cerise jumpsuit.

PamT - I am 29.

Jendy · 27/08/2002 12:36

Thanks PamT - you're a technological whizzkid and a mine of nostalgic information . It worked !!!!!! Next lessons please, how did I get it to wink? Bulleyes, rhubarb & custard (sweets and programme) sour apples, pineapple chunks, cola cubes, arrow bars golden wonder and smiths crisps, mother's pride (bread), summer county butter, sticky lice, colts foot ....I think it's lunch time, knickerbocker glories, rondelloss, rumbas, tab. Someone mentioned golden nuggets - you can buy them again.

PamT · 27/08/2002 13:05

Jendy, you did the winky before with the semi-colon and closing bracket . The smiley is a colon and a closing bracket . A cheesy grin is a colon followed by a small letter o and a sad face is a colon and opening bracket . Look forward to seeing them all (except the sad one.)

sjs · 27/08/2002 13:47

Yes - I had lots of gypsy clothes - frilly white tops, and lots of underskirts. All that stuff is in fashion again isn't it? Just can't bring myself to do it.

The 80s - mad crush on Duran Duran (better than Barry Manilow who came before that!) and Spandau Ballet. Loved my black knickerbockers and my frilly (again!) shirt. Wore it to the discos and thought I was the bees knees!

Bottle of cider on the beach on Saturday nights with my 3 girlfriends followed by packets of polo mints. Subtle eh??

Used to listen to the countdown of the charts on sunday night on Radio One (do they still do that.) Radio Luxumburg at night while I was doing my homework. Totally illegal in my house and the reception was just appalling - used to spend most of my time turning the radio, moving it etc to get better reception.

Constantly on the phone for as long a poss every evening to my best friend who I'd seen all day anyway, to talk about who knows what. Used to drive my dad mad. Makes me laugh cos my brother has the same problem with my 15 year old niece today!

AAsmummy · 27/08/2002 14:17

I was into all the electronic music in the 80s such as New Order, Visage, Gary Newman (hear he is making a come back!), OMD etc. I had this friend who was older than me, who used to go to the clubs in London. I got to hear about all the trendy new trendy stuff from him, I felt so cool!
I used to waer these pixi boots with leg warmers and I put some shammy leathers around the top. Looking back it probably looked like I was wearing peach toilet paper around my boot...how sad!

Err........ got a confession to make, a friend of mine was going out with the original drummer from Ultravox Warren McCann, so when I went to visit her in London I went on a double date with them and Gary Numan. He's very short - used to wear lifts in his shoes and definately wore more makeup than I did! Can't say I fancied him but he was nice company. This was a long long time ago.

Joe1 · 27/08/2002 17:00

I went to see Shaking Stevens, Five Star, UB40, Cameo, sad. I had blue lycra disco trousers. Drank Pernod, black and cider. I also wore long skirts, little ankle boots and leg warmers and the skirts had a petticoat hanging down. Had a ra-ra dress I think, white with green spots, or it might have been my sister.

Used to watch Tales from the river bank with the guinea pigs, the goodies and valley of the dinosaurs which was normally on Saturday mornings on Swop shop.

MandyD · 27/08/2002 18:43

Right, time to 'fess up - I was 40 this birthday! How does that date me compared to everyone else?

WWW and ks - yes, I remember the unavailability of straight jeans in '76...I kept wearing the ones I took in until my 25th birthday party
in '87, then as I was being given the bumps the leg came clean off!!! I had to borrow a (large) man's T-shirt and belt it in to become a dress (very Clare Grogan!)

PamT - Mouldy Old Dough was Lieutenant Pigeon!!
Jendy - Snakebite is cider and lager (blackcurrant optional).

I always listened to the Top 20 on Radio 1 in the bath on a Sunday evening - I guess the number one was always announced at 7.00pm. There's only 2 records I really asociate with that time: Tap Turns on the Water by CCS and Son of the/my Father by Chicory Tip. Radio Luxembourg was mentioned - Fab 208! I remember the reception problems too. But did anyone ever catch AFN (American Forces Network, broadcast from Germany)? I used to listen to the original Wolfman Jack - class!!!

Enid · 27/08/2002 19:22

I had a notebook where I wrote down the charts every Sunday.

Skived off school and went to London to pose around Portobello market in a long black skirt with petticoat sticking out, red top, black pointy boots with straps all over and a fetching black beret. Lots of black eye make up. My best friend wore exactly the same. A bloke tried to chat us up and we were so scared we ran screaming back to the tube.

Enid · 27/08/2002 19:22

I was born in 1966.

janh · 27/08/2002 19:23

MandyD - 51 here - make you feel any better?

Late 60s - loon pants and cheesecloth smocks, Flower Power, Inecto Hint of a Tint, Blue Grass perfume and that orangey stuff whose name I can't remember. (Aqua Manda - it came back to me eventually!) Miners make-up from Woolworths.

I have size 8 feet and could NOT get shoes except from grown-up extra large departments in, eg, Lilley and Skinner in Bond St (?).

Used to listen to Radio London ("Kenny and Cash on London" ) - it had a good Top 40 show in the mid-60s, before Alan Freeman's on R1 on Sundays. I was an Animals fan (signed-up member) from 1964 until whenever they broke up. I lived near Heathrow and worked there c 1967 - 1969 in sweetshops etc, got lots of autographs inc them, Stones, Manfred Mann, and can't remember who else as somebody nicked my book! I was once asked, in the pharmacy, for Bain de Soleil by Robert Wagner (who was a serious hunk in 1969) - I stared and gulped and said no, we didn't have it and he said "it's a suncream", verrrry slowly, as to a complete idiot, but even so we didn't have it!

I am almost the same age as D Cassidy but I still used to lust after him on the Partridge Family, how sad is that?

Cadburys choc and Mars bars were 6d each, Polos 2½d and 10 Embassy 2/3½d (so you could get both for half a crown and "hide" the smell) and 10 No 6 were 1/6d. (For you young things that's c. 2½p, 1p, 11½p and 7½p respectively!)

I know Suedonim is another oldie but is it just us 2????

janh · 27/08/2002 19:25

Oooh, Enid, you are not quite as old as me but same generation! I used to write down the charts every week too, in an exercise book, and get v excited as No 1 approached, esp. when the Animals were in the Top 10!

janh · 27/08/2002 19:26

Sorry, Enid - got over-excited there - I was thinking 56, not 66, I was 15 when you were born (slinks away in embarrassment....)

PamT · 27/08/2002 19:47

Enid, I was born in 66 too so I'm afraid I'm a decimal girl, janh.

batey · 27/08/2002 20:26

WWW,me too with the black eyeliner!! My Dad used to say I scared old ladies. Have to confess to being a bit of a Goth! lots of back combing and huge amounts of bracletts and massive earings!Oh dear........!

OP posts:
crystaltips · 27/08/2002 21:31

1964 - that's me !!

Adam and the Ants and all the New Romantic stuff!
However, the first live "pop concert" I went to was .... MUD

ionesmum · 27/08/2002 21:35

Oooooh yes, Gary Numan - 'Are Friends Electric' - marvellous. And OMD, Ultravox, The Associates...

After this I became a Goth and had the Souixie Souix make-up, listened to 'The Sisters of Mercy' and 'The Cure', and was a MASSIVE Smith's fan.

Bozza · 27/08/2002 21:41

I was born in 73 so a lot of this 70s stuff is really before my time.

Chinchilla · 27/08/2002 21:53

Enid - LOL Twilight Teaser from Rimmel. All my friends used to wear it. You could get the little push up lipstick that only cost 50p, instead of the bigger twist up one. Yukky purpley/pink with a petrol style shine to it...

I remember dancing to the 'Birdy Song' at my first year Christmas disco (1981) with my pale blue and white jumper dress, and blue raw silk ballerina pumps...mmmmm! Plus, I had blue satin pedal pushers (with matching bolero) that, thankfully, I never wore in public.

I remember saying that I would NEVER stop wearing my tight jeans, and was aghast when flares came back in. Remember having to lie on the floor to get them on because they were too tight to pull on normally?

sylvev · 27/08/2002 21:54

1961 too. I went from squealing at David Cassidy, to rocking with Status Quo to, and this is a big leap, being a punk! I died my hair black, (not that radical really as I'm naturally dark brown), and wore v. tight drainpipes and crippling pointy-toed shoes! My punk claim to fame was stealing a kiss from Paul Weller after a Jam concert!!

jenny2998 · 27/08/2002 22:17

ah, pixie boots....

jenny2998 · 27/08/2002 22:17

I was born in 1980
