oh am so fed up - I am crap and hate this kind of thing - me and DP argued about this and now not speaking and I look like such a ditzy girl as I have nothing to say about car.

I need something:

Safe
Small
Reliable
Cheap

That my top ger sneering DP won't roll his eyes when I suggest it.

Guess it depends if you have children or not.

I have a Ford Ka (my current one is my third one) - I love them but they are not to everyone's tastes!

However, I need to change it as DS is 12 months and really needs to learn to sit in the back seat like a big boy - not up front with mummy so I need 5 doors - will be very sad when it is time to swap.

WideWebWitch · 29/07/2007 19:42

Focus?
They're v popular for a reason, safe, reliable. Cheap, small.

BBBee · 29/07/2007 19:43

it will be our second car - our main family car is the one for ferrying the children around so back seat space is not a major issue.

I love my Ford Ka. My nieghbours have a Citroen C1 and she raves about it. Small though - depends if you need room for a buggy or not.

WideWebWitch · 29/07/2007 20:18

BB, we bought a Focus each, they're both still absolutely fine.

southeastastra · 29/07/2007 20:19

i just got a new car, a focus too, they're great

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 20:21

I have a Saxo (now superseded by the C3)
Apparently all European cars are girly

Go out and buy the current issue of What Car?, read the Supermini section and wow him with your knowledge.

unknownrebelbang · 29/07/2007 20:22

I've had a suzuki swift for a couple of months. Lovely car. Great value for money and nifty.

Had a fiat punto prior to that, very good car.

Nissan Micras are also very reliable.

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 20:23

superseded by the C2, sorry

peachygirl · 29/07/2007 20:24

i've got a Skoda Fabia and it is very good - underneath it's a VW Polo, but much better value

MrsFish · 29/07/2007 20:25

I started with a Ford Ka - great little cars, been through many others but now have a Smart car in the fleet, but only has two seats...

Suzuki swift looks really nice

Do you want a sporty car, or a sensible car?
Whats your budget?
Is it for fun or the school run?

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 20:27

Isn't the Fabia a Golf rather than a Polo?
Seat Leon is a Golf as well, think the Ibiza is a Polo.

tuppy · 29/07/2007 20:59

I like the look of the new small Citroens - or what about a Mini (maybe 2nd hand as they aren't cheap new...then again buying new you'd benefit from the high residuals...).

mosschops30 · 29/07/2007 21:00

Mini Cooper, I love mine but its not cheap to run. However is very safe, small and reliable.

What about a Beetle, that would be my 2nd choice

SlightlyMadSpider · 29/07/2007 21:01

Honda Jaz.

Best buy for Which
Very reliable
Great to drive
Good spacewise for its overall size
I guess it might not be as cheap as some of the other superminis though.

LyraBelacqua · 29/07/2007 21:04

Suzuki have got a very cute new small car. I'll google it and link it if i find it.

LyraBelacqua · 29/07/2007 21:06

The Suzuki Swift is What Car?'s best buy.

mosschops30 · 29/07/2007 21:34

Honda Jazz are driven by old people who wear hats and drive at 15mph everywhere (i.e my parents and the old fart I got stuck behind today)

LyraBelacqua · 29/07/2007 21:39

Note to self: read thread before posting. I see the Suzuki Swift has already been mentioned several times
