You must have a very big floor for a whole country to damage it

charliecat · 16/09/2004 16:21

What did they do?

vict17 · 16/09/2004 16:21

Tinker · 16/09/2004 16:21

Sorry, not helpful. Write and complain - will get taken more seriously than a phonecall

Have you gone to the CAB about it? I don't know - someone might be able to fill in more - but if you put them through small claims (?) they might hurry up and pay for the damage. Have you taken photographic evidence and witten it down in a diary? Have you got any other photos taken near the time it happened?

Titania · 16/09/2004 17:01

will ring cab tomorrow. I have photos of it now, but nothing to prove it was them other than that. no other photos of floor before damage either

How on earth did they do that? Sounds awful.

Titania · 16/09/2004 17:14

instead of using one of those trolley things, they dragged it across the floor!!!

Titania, hope you get it sorted!
VERY bad customer service!

smellymelly · 17/09/2004 14:24

Argos scratched my wall in the hall, a few years back. Only reasonably minor, and I got £25! They were great about it.

I guess Iceland want to fight the floor as it will an expensive claim. Definitely try the CAB, and write to the company direct.

Get 3 quotes for replacing the lino and keep copies. Then write another letter to the head honcho, enclosing the quotes, and say that, unless they accept liability for the damage (explaining how it happened) you will have no alternative but to issue court proceedings. Give them 7/14/21 days (whichever you feel appropriate) to respond and then issue a claim in the small claims court. They would probably cough up rather than defend the summons as it will cost them money to do that (they will undoubtedly have to instruct solicitors which would probably cost more than the replacement lino). Note that, as they are a limited company, you will have to serve the summons at their registered office (you could probably find this on their website).

Threatening to contact the local press might also concentrate their minds. They don't want adverse publicity.
