....you had a card delivered to your address for someone else? I looked in the phone book for the name to see if the addressee had got the house number wrong, but no-one round here with that surname. So I opened the card to see if it had a return address - it doesn't, but it DOES have £10 for a boys birthday from his nan!
I just asked a local boy if he knew anyone called ? ? and he says he doesn't.
So what do I do? I can't find the rightful recipient and I can't return the card and money with no return address!

I don't see what you can do towards getting the card back to sender or intended recipient

Either give cash to charity
or keep it

anorak · 24/07/2007 17:43

I'd hang on to it for a couple of weeks in case someone approaches you or you have some bright idea about who it could belong to. After that you may as well keep it or give it to charity.

spooky!

MaureenMLove · 24/07/2007 17:44

Is there any streets near you with similar names, that might be worth a try. As bad as it sounds, if you really have tried and can't re-direct it, I guess its yours.

aloha · 24/07/2007 17:45

Keep it for a while. Maybe the nan will call and ask if her grandson got his card, mum will say no, and nan will remember she put wrong number/road name on it.

SaintGeorge · 24/07/2007 17:47

Have you tried looking up the surname on the electoral roll? You might spot one with a likely looking address.

Desiderata · 24/07/2007 17:47

Oh dear. Nan's going to be cross when she doesn't get her thank you card.

Boy's going to pissed off with his nan because she didn't send him any money for his birthday.

Agree with Maureen that it might be good to do some more investigative work. It can't be a million miles from you ... but it's a lot of hassle.

It's a shame the schools have broken up or they might be some help.

Feedmenow · 24/07/2007 18:56

Saintgeorge, will try the electoral role but don't hold out hope as in the area we live in there are a lot of families whereby children have different surnames to their mums, etc. But will give it a go anyway.
And failing that, will take the advice of others and hold on to it for a couple of weeks incase something turns up. Then will probably donate to charity.....

I think it is illegal to open someone elses mail.

write 'not at this address' on it and stick it back in a postbox.
