Small Toddler Beds...Help

Hiya - bit of a strange question this but has anyone ever bought a toddler bed that is shorter than 137 cm . I have a 'hole' in which to put this bed for ds in a couple of months , but can't find anything smaller than 149 cm so far.

Any suggestions greatfully received, really wish I'd bought a cotbed in the first place - but hindsight's a wonderful thing eh ?!

I thought IKEA did a very small bed - worth a try

We have a IKEA bed for DS, don't know if it is shorter than 137cm mind you but it does not seem much bigger than a cot. The ends can extend if you want them to and eventually it ends up being the size of an ordinary single bed. HTH.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, Ikea do an extendable bed that starts at cot length and then extends - I presume you use the cot mattress at first then buy a bigger one later. BUT they had completely sold out of them at my local Bristol branch and no idea when they were getting any more in.

Otherwise you may have to buy a cot bed or a junior bed in the meantime.

This may not be of any help unless you happen to know a Handy Andy, but BIL had a similar problem with their 3 yo daughter - when they moved house she then got her own room, (the box room), there was only one possible way to put her existing bed and it just wouldn't fit, they couldn't find anything in the stores that would fit either and the only option they had was to build a bed frame in the space and buy a small mattress (I don't know where they got the mattress from though).

We got a small bed from Argos about five years ago complete with small mattress - might be worth trying?

Try www.roomtogrow.co.uk then go to starterbeds and midi beds. Thuka do a Fantasia growing bed that's only 131cm, expandable if you need longer. It's only £99 in the sale at the mo. Otherwise IKEA do an expandable one which someone else has mentioned (the mattress comes in three sections - if it's one the shortest length the two end sections fold over to become and pillow and foot-board, then you fold down one or both of these end sections when you lengthen the bed.

Could a local carpenter build you a bed in-situ? Then you could have a little bed with some storage too. You could even design it!

Aloha - I love the idea of getting the local carpenter in to do it. Unfortunately my dh thinks he is the local carpenter, electrician , plumber etc. Unfortunately he is none of these things and my ds would probably be 18 yrs before his bed was finished

WE have that IKEA bed and the mattress is only foam and not very comfortable for heffalump like me (dd having got into our bed and I wanting my sleep used her bed!!!) but I guess when you need a full size mattress you'd go and get something like a sprung one. We also bought a cot bed out of the papaer and bought a new mattress, as we new when they were old enough they kids would have bunk beds.

We are investigating the Ikea extendable bed at the momen. They have some at Brent cross aand some at Wednesbury (West Mids)if you have willing or blackmailable relatives that can buy and move it for you. (I know its their philosophy but mail order Ikea would make life so much easier). There is also an expendable bed in the Greatr Little Trading Co catalogue, but its more expensive.
