Need HELP!!! Finding xmas company do

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 13:51

I've been given the (impossible) task of finding an xmas do for my company. Who can help me with ideas.

It's for about 10 people ranging from 22 - 60. Some people are fun and up for a luagh and other up stuck up and stuffy. Partners are included in the 10 people.

Last year we went horse racing for the day and other functions have included meals, theatre trips, casino trips.

There are some people that work for the company that will not be happy whatever we do (bunch of bastards!!!)

I have been thinking about a murder mystery dinner????????

Oh and my boss hates these things where you go with lots of other companies!!!!!!

So ladies (and possibly gents), I lay down this challange to you...... who's game?!?!?!?!?!

comedy night?

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 13:54

yeah thought of the comedy club.

The main problem is that if we all sit at a table without entertainment of some sort the conversation dries up!!!!!

wouldnt everyone be relievs if you just had drinks att he pub after work?

coddychops · 13/09/2004 13:55

and hate taking partners too!

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 13:56

my boss is into "team building"

It's usually quite a good time for those of us willing to enjoy ourselves. Stay in a posh London hotel, get dressed up etc etc

It's just the miserable bastards at my company that ruin it for the others.

In a way, I'd hate to give into them - I want to MAKE them have fun

jampot · 13/09/2004 14:09

where are you sweetheart

jampot · 13/09/2004 14:09

a good old Greek night out usually is pretty good for cheering up the miserables

littlemissbossy · 13/09/2004 14:10

How much do you want to spend?? and where are you?

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 14:14

I'm in Hampshire so we quite often venture into London.

Money isn't really a problem - I would say a max of £250pp

very difficult given that it's a small party with a large age range!!! If you want murder mystery look at www.westendevents.co.uk - about £65 each - HTH,if I think of anything else I'll let you know.

aprilmeadow · 13/09/2004 15:27

hahahaha Sweetie - i see that you have given up trying to find something yourself!!

mMy suggestion is reading gate retail park - you can choose from McDonalds, KFC and PizzaHut! Thats what i have told my lot!!

For all those who think i am mean for laughing - Sweetheart is my best friend which makes it ok to laugh. Coz she laughs at me!

katzguk · 13/09/2004 15:44

what about a medievil banquet with jousting and sword fights ect

Angeliz · 13/09/2004 15:49

Have no ideas sweetheart but your post did make me laugh.

You call them a bunch of bastards and then promptly suggest a murder mystery

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 16:02

Had thought of a medieval banquet - my dh and I went to one on holiday with jousting and it was fantastic!!! Trouble is I can't find one and short of flying everyone to Tenerife!!!!!!

Angeliz, I'm glad to have brightened your day a little Trust me - they are bastards!!!

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 16:03

Also to reciprocate Angeliz - your post on the over emotional thread really hit the nail on the head for me. I am totally emotionally unbalanced since having dd (in a good way though)

what about medieval

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 16:40

sounds good to me - I'm sure it will be unnapealing to the grumpy ones though

What about Vinopolis - Museum of wine thing on the South Bank? V interesting in itself - and you get to taste loads of wine as you go around. People can then either be pretentious wine bores, history buffs or dribbling drunks as they see fit. Good restaurant there too.

Did this for a team thing for my load of work shy executives and they had a blast.

sweetheart · 13/09/2004 16:57

That sounds just the tickets Ali!!!!!!!! Am more of a vodka girl myself but I'm sure I can make this huge sacrifice for the company

I'll have a good look into that - thanks!!

Boat trip maybe - you can always chuck the boring bastards over board then!!

SofiaAmes · 13/09/2004 22:11

Murder mystery night sounds great.

But here's another really different idea. How about going to rome (or florence) for the night. I've never met anyone who doesn't like the place, and if you book enough in advance it's really not too expensive. And food is so much cheaper there that a lovely dinner out would be so much cheaper that it would make up for the cost of the flights.

I did a search for something diferent last year & found a company who did all sorts of theme parties in venues & marquees which looked really cool. Most were 'down south' (I'm 'up north' myself) - having said that no of our miserable bunch were up for the only one that was near us - a Jungle theme. I can try & find the name if you are interested. I think I just Googled Xmas + Theme + Party or something like that !
