Anyone know how much is a reasonable price to pay for new shower to be installed (and old taken out, of course).

Man with tool box says £800 ...

Thank you very much everyone.

I will definitely investigate further.

lol

I would avoid the main DIY superstores to be honest, the quality (and price on occasion) is superceded by your normal plumbers merchants. Where do you live?

MuffinMclay · 18/07/2007 14:14

£300 for a shower sounds reasonable, but £500 for labour (and only 4 hours of it) is taking the piss.

My plumber is charging £6000 (excl fittings, tiles, units etc) to refit 2 bathrooms, but that is for 6 weeks work. Shower itself costs about £900 but it is an awkward shape.

Live in Hampshire, near Portsmouth.

Thank you anyway.

Lionheart, a very good friend of ours is a fab plumber and qualified electrician - and we are near Portsmouth

I can give you his number if you like?

fortyplus · 18/07/2007 15:15

If you've got young children then get a thermostatic shower so they can't scald themselves. Only prob is that the shower on its own is about £500 but money well spent imo.

We have recently had our bathroom redone, and we got alot of great items from
here
They deliver quickly, and always have good special offers.

They sell showers too (although as I already stated we got ours from homebase and it works fine (but we have high water pressure in our area - that may make a difference)

lionheart · 18/07/2007 18:26

Ooh, sidge, that would be fab. Thank you.

Sounds like a good idea, fp, but we're putting the house on the market next year so can't go for the most expensive (and sensible) option.

Thank you, too, RM, I am learning all kinds of things about bathroom nozzles and tubes today.

Email me on [email protected] and I can give you his number. I know he's busy but worth a call I reckon.

lionheart · 18/07/2007 19:43

Will do.
