Wierd PhoneCall

A bloke has just phoned me asking if I know a woman (he gave her name) staying at number 44 down my street (he named the street). I said I didn't know her so he asked if I knew who was staying there I said no so he asked me if I knew who the landlord was and was it private or council etc?

When he realised I knew nothing he thanked me for my time and said goodbye.

What a wierd phone call, how did he get MY number???

A few months ago my friend got the same phonecall only it was about a person staying in a house down her street.

Anyone know what this could be?

someone trying to find out if a house is for rent? using their initiative?

no he asked for a specific person that lives there, he was more interested in the person than the house but I wonder where he got my number from if he doesn't know who I am

I had a phone call about a neighbour (4 houses away) I questioned the caller and it turned out to be a Gas supplier trying to trace where the neighbour had moved to as they had unpaid bills!

Sounds like debt collection agency to me, what they'll do is get the numbers of the neighbours in the street & call them till they get a response. It's pretty easy to get, if you're not ex-directory.
