I can't stop crying when I watch/read anything on the news about the school seige in Beslan. I can't sleep for thinking about it. My boy started school today - I guess I'm just another over emotional parent. Any others out there?

Melf, there is a converstion under in the news, that you would like to join

Branster · 08/09/2004 21:28

It is incredibly sad what happened and you've probably been 'hit' by so much exposure to unbelievalably cruel events. This world is so so so cruel . the reality is this is just an episode, look in other parts of the world and you'll probably find worse things happening but taking longer to develop. We just don't see it in such graphic details. But it is there. When I feel like that I pray a lot for the other people. Don't know if this would help you but I believe it helps them. What a tragic world we live in....

You're not alone, Melf. I'm still trying to come to terms with the horror of it all, and like you get very tearful when I read or watch anything about it. Really, words can't describe my feelings. I wondered if there were any plans to raise funds for the families affected, and have emailed newspaper editors, but have heard nothing. I wish there was something, however small/insignificant that could be done to help somehow, although what the families are going through now, and what the hostages went through cannot be imagined in your worst nightmares. I think that what has made this so much worse is that it is so easy to imagine in your own child's school - something as innocuous as a first day back after the holidays, with them kitted out in new clothes and shoes. It's terribly, terribly sad.

millipede

on the other thread found on 'In the news' section there is this message which I've copied and pasted here

" By jimmychoos on Monday, 6 September, 2004 11:39:39 AM

there is a red cross appeal for medical equipment to help survivors of this atrocity.

I'm not very good at links but will try....

\link{http://russianredcross.narod.ru/indexeng.html}

If this doesn't work you can go through the BBC site via the Today programme."

Thanks, Branster, I'll have a look. I did check with some of the charities also, but obviously didn't look in the right places.

I cryed at the news last night.
My dd started school on Tuesday and i was exactly the same.
It is awful

The enjoyment the terrorists seemed to have in the video released chilled me to the bone. The look on the childrens faces, I mean how evil would you need to be to put them through that.

It is every parents nightmare, a situation where your child is in grave danger and there is damn all you can do about it! I hope the children and their families get the help they will need to get through the aftermath.

binker · 09/09/2004 12:08

I cannot bear to look at the newspapers/tv coverage of this - I weep for them all...

Hulababy · 09/09/2004 12:12

I have posted on the other thread how awful I found all that, and still do. That video is just horrid. The bit where the terrorist is hovering his foot over the bomb detonator as terrified children watch - I just feel like crying about it every time I see the news

Melf · 09/09/2004 12:38

Glad to know you're all out there feeling the same. Doing something positive (however minimal) like making a donation (somewhere) may help and I felt a bit better this morn when I was in the supermarket and saw splashed across the front page of the Sun the smiling face of the dark haired little boy who was sitting right next to a bomb in the video - he had survived somehow. Don't know what life will be like for him but I did feel better for it.
