Are YOU an interrupter?

And if so, can I tell you off? The person I want to tell off has now hung up and I was too cowardly to tell him what a rude pig he is, so I am looking for someone to hold accountable for all interrupters everywhere.

Why can't I be like my sister who says

"HEY!! lips moving, still talking!"

I want to find someone on here who interrupts when others are speaking so I can yell at you.

It will make me feel better.

yes, I am.
I know I do it and it's an awful habit. I am trying to be good and not do it though.
but feel free to shout at me

Desiderata · 09/07/2007 14:50

.... may I interrupt?

purplepants · 09/07/2007 14:51

feel free to yell at me - it's an awful affliction (usually borne of excitement to share rather than being merely ignorant) and even when I know I'm doing it I sometimes can't stop myself. It's very embarassing for all concerned and I can totally understand your frustration. On behalf of all interrupters can I meekly offer an apology?

Oblomov · 09/07/2007 14:51

I am. Very bad habit . I get too excited. I think it is becasue I am bereft of conversation.

3xamum · 09/07/2007 14:51

Just interrupting to say that yes I do this too. Its bloody irritating but I can't seem to stop! I think there needs to be some sort of support group!

Walnutshell · 09/07/2007 14:51

Gawd, my sister doesn't STOP talking long enough for anyone to speak and give her the CHANCE to interrupt! (I love her!)

Good tactic is to just carry on speaking, maybe slightly louder or repeat what you were saying when interrupted in a calm but pointed fashion. heheh.

doughnuts · 09/07/2007 14:51

I do it to my mum on the phone because she takes so long to say things - very rude I know.

mytwopenceworth · 09/07/2007 14:52

ARGH! Stop. Doing. It.

It's rude and it comes across like the other person is unimportant to you.

You don't know what I am going to say. I do need to finish my WHOLE sentence.

LISTEN TO ME.

I had a friend* and we often both talked over each other and managed to hold down 2 conversations (briefly) and still get back onto topic - eventually. Must've been agony for anyone listening.

Yes yes, just the one.

Desiderata · 09/07/2007 14:53

OK ... but hurry up, then

Walnutshell · 09/07/2007 14:54

Sorry, mytwo, I was too busy typing my post to listen...

And I knew what you were going to say anyway.

Heh.

mytwopenceworth · 09/07/2007 14:56

Also, one of ds1's LSA is a bugger for doing this. She ALWAYS jumps in when I am halfway through a sentence with her response to what she thinks I am saying...but because she is too busy planning her reply to actually HEAR me, she is always wrong! But she won't listen to me try to explain that she has not understood me.

Receive. Receive. Receive.

if you lower your voice rather than raising it the other person has to shut up to listen to you

3xamum · 09/07/2007 14:58

Or interrupt with a 'What? speak up'

mytwopenceworth · 09/07/2007 14:58

that only works if they want to hear you. How do you deal with people who only care what they have to say? Who have already decided your half of the conversation.

You could strip naked and show them your point written on your big bare arse and they STILL wouldn't take it in.

SeaSalty · 09/07/2007 15:09

...anyway, as I was saying
