It appears my hotmail account has been hacked, and I now can't get into it. Haved tried to chenge my password, but it won't let me!

When it asks me my secret question - it comes up with "http://goat.cx ownz j00"

Does anybody know what this means and what I should do?

Spent last night accessing all my online accounts and changing the email address and resetting passwords. But am really cross coz I have lost all my email contacts, and am also concerned that they will get emailled from my account.

i can´t get into hotmail account for past day... can use msn tho.. maybe microsoft having some security problems?

JJ · 08/09/2004 18:14

You should contact hotmail immediately and they can shut out the hacker. Ask them if it's possible to retrieve your contacts, etc.

They should have an email address for those type of things. I don't have a hotmail acct, but look under fraud or help or something like that.

maybe it's to do with this upgrade thy're doing to make it bigger?? i use msn.co.uk, click on hotmail and try signing in from there. are you sure your e-mail address and password are typed correctly (capital letters, spelling etc)
very strange...

kalex · 08/09/2004 18:20

No absoulutely sure that am typing in the right password. When I went to change it coz I couldn't get in, it didn't ask me my sercret question, just gave that strange message.

The really weird thing is my password stopped working about 4 weeks ago and I changed it, thought it was a bit weird but really didn't think about it. DP said that that should have sent alarm bells, but have only had PC for 6 months so didn't really think that it was a problem!

Have sent Hotmail an email, but haven't had a reply, can't get into messengar either

well, that's not very good. did you ahve any sensitive information in any of the e-mails? like passwords for other sites etc? so you can go and change them. try and e-mail them again until you get an answer. i hope it gets sorted.

fio2 · 08/09/2004 18:25

I couldnt get into mine the other day either, even though I had typed in the right password. I had to do the verify different questions things then reset my password.

I think its to do with all the changes tbh

kalex · 08/09/2004 18:31

Have wracked my brains to remember all my accounts, I was really concerned about my banking, coz I used this account to set it up, but it has not been accessed, have changed all passwords that I can think of.

It's the fact that the verify question has changed leads me to believe its been hacked. DP reckons its an easy way to hack an account, coz it's stuff that someone could guess.

I actually strongly suspect it's someone I know which is really worrying coz there are email addresses of people he knows and he could create havok

Does anyone have any idea what the message "http://goat.cx ownz j00" means?

OP posts:
TraceyP · 08/09/2004 18:33

I know that goat.cx is an extremely offensive site.

kalex · 08/09/2004 18:45

TraceyP, I wish you hadn't told me that!!!!! I thought it was some cryptic message - and then had to go look. MY EYES MY EYES.

So obviously a hack job. I know who it is, GOD the sick sick B"""""d

TraceyP · 08/09/2004 18:47

Sorry. I didn't mean you to go and look!!!! The ownz joo bit suggests hacking too - owns you?

kalex · 08/09/2004 19:29

Well TP, he can think what he likes, but he bl00dy owns me when hell freezes over. Honestly thanks 4 telling me what it mean't I had no idea.

OP posts:
TraceyP · 08/09/2004 19:37

Sounds a bit grim, are you sure it's someone you know who's done this?

kalex · 08/09/2004 19:41

Well it all started when I had my telephone number changed to get rid of him, and he is has also always been a computer geek.

He also knows enough info about me to guess my secret password.

Honestly we split up 9 years ago, you would think that he had better things to do with his time.

OP posts:
kalex · 08/09/2004 19:43

i don't actually know whether I have been targetted at random or not, but really suspect not.

That's awful. Do you think there's anything you can do to stop this happening again?

willow2 · 09/09/2004 11:14

If it is this guy playing havoc with your life once again then he could now be charged with stalking as you only need two incidences of unwanted contact - would think this qualifies.

That said, I've been having problems with Hotmail too - messages are taking ages to arrive and send - or simply don't get to where they are supposed to. Email support on [email protected]

If it is this guy though, I would contact the police and register your concern.
