....recommendations please?

Will probably be looking at car cover rather than personal cover

OK Green flag look cheapest....are they any good?

Is it worth looking at bundling it with my car insurance (which is due for renewal next week anyway?)

I get it with my bank account which actually works out cheaper than getting it direct with RAC.
Might be worth looking into what your bank offers...

(I get phone and travel insurance as well, I upgraded my bank account purely for these 3 things)

Dh woks as a roadside mechanic for one of the major companies, and he wouldn't recommend green flag. You will get mainly untrained technicians, from small companies, many of whom do not get the same "checks" that the major companies give to all of there employees. Before working for his present company he was subcontracted to green flag via his old company, and he was shocked by some of the things he saw. They may be cheapest, but they do not necessarily offer the same quality or best service. If you get cover via your bank you need to check if it is full cover, as many only offer very basic roadside assistance (no recovery), which may cause problems in a breakdown situation

TY MrsAEK

I think my bank is going to be more expensive anyway

Worth a try, as apart from that I have no useful advice!

sarahlou1uk · 08/07/2007 16:06

I;m with RAC and because I have been with them for over 4 years and not called them out, I saved £53 when renewing this year. Think they are expensive at first, but you get a discount like I have, for the following year if you haven't called them out. Me and dh have each got personal cover rather than car and it was cheaper at the time. HTH

SlightlyMadSalmon · 08/07/2007 16:54

I am with the RAC. I only need car cover as DPs car is still covered as it is new.

greenflag or AA. Greenflag are brilliant

whomovedmychocolate · 08/07/2007 21:33

There aren't any that do only car cover these days unless you get it as part of a garage warranty (I had that on my Honda)

I have it as part of Lloyds Private Banking with the AA (tis free). But FYI Green Flag and RAC both use the same vans these days! I'm told the supermarkets do it too and they use greenflag vans.

marymoocow · 08/07/2007 21:39

just picked up a leaflet in Asda today, that does breakdown cover through RAC. Seemed to be a very good price £73.92, which includes roadside, at home, recovery, accident care and legal care. AND you can pay in monthly instalments of £6.16 without any interest charges.
Don't know if that is of any help

SlightlyMadSalmon · 08/07/2007 21:40

You can get car cover with AA, RAC and GreenFlag.

It is not as well advertised and if you ask about it on the phone they go "oooo ahhh m'love you don't want that - its expensive...."

BUT DPs car (Honda) has another 2 years RAC cover.

If I have personal cover and DP is driving my car he won't be covered - which is why we want car cover. That way both cars are covered with both drivers at all times.

But it's really much cheaper to just go for the basic package for both of you. Try this link

SlightlyMadSalmon · 08/07/2007 21:42

Oh and the RAC eventually (afer trying to talk me out of it) gave me a quote on Car cover and it was exactly the same as personal cover and then I bartered £10 off.

The AA Car cover is about £5 more expensive than personal cover.
I suspect they just don't want to sell car cover ?

marymoocow · 08/07/2007 21:44

The asda one promotes itself as car cover.

SlightlyMadSalmon · 08/07/2007 21:47

TY MaryMoo - will have a look at that

OP posts:
marymoocow · 08/07/2007 21:48
