Facebook and messenger blocking

I know it's childish and I shouldn't give a toss but this is baffling me.

If someone has blocked you on facebook, should you be able to see the following

1. In messenger I still have a thread from them, it says I can no longer comment on that thread, however I can still see when they are active or not.

2. I can't find their profile in Facebook, but if I click on it through the messenger thread I still have the option to block them on Facebook and messenger. I thought if you were blocked you could not in return block them.

Because of this I am concerned they can see my profile, but I can't see theirs is that possible

If someone's blocked you, you wouldn't be able to see anything. However they could've restricted you, means you don't see any of their posts unless the posts are 'public'.
If they've blocked you and you click on their profile it comes up saying no connection.

I defo seem to be blocked as they don't come up in Facebook searches and they are still posting public posts (I looked at their profile on someone elses).

It's all very strange . Hoping soneone can shed some light

I'm pretty sure you have to block on messenger separately now because it's a separate app.
