Fraid not - but I'd like to know the answer to your question myself. I do crafts.

So what is your venture then? ks and I are waiting for an explanation

fio2 · 07/09/2004 10:29

well, you will think I am mad. But I have started making childrens clothes and I am thinking of going into knitwear and few "other" crafty things. It is all in the planning/example stages atm but I have been doing it for years tbh.

I have pissing around for years and I think its about time I got my act together. My husband is disillusioned at work and we have a mortgage that needs paying, so i have to get off my arse so a bit extra with my holiday let (my other venture!) things should be a bit easier

I am also making hedgehogs (dont ask!)

and look at me! I am still on mumsnet

anorak · 07/09/2004 10:32

Hooray!

JJ · 07/09/2004 10:40

Ooh, how are you going to sell them? I've always wanted to open an internet shop, but have nothing to sell.

fio2 · 07/09/2004 10:51

I was going to try to do sale or return in shops/tourist information centre and do craft fairs to start with. Dh is going to do me a small website too. We are in a seaside town, so i am hoping I can shift a few and maybe do alterations, make whatever people want me to!

I dont have much of a business plan do I?

does no-one know about this copyright thing?

OP posts:
iota · 07/09/2004 11:03

I don't know about copyright, but are you putting your own label on them - don't Cash's name tape do those sort of labels?

fio2 · 07/09/2004 11:07

I know how to get the labels made. its just I wanted to copyright it so it belongs to me. Or dont I have to?

I am completely clueless!

OP posts:
anorak · 07/09/2004 11:19

I don't know that you do need to really. I think even top fashion designers expect their stuff to be copied. You can make a label and register it under your company name I think.

fio2 · 07/09/2004 11:20

Oh right! I'll do that then

And there are information sheets re setting up in business as craftsperson from the Crafts Council
here

bundle · 07/09/2004 12:15

what's your logo like fio?

anorak · 07/09/2004 12:29

Aaah...that's better. A mumsnetter that actually KNOWS SOMETHING and can answer the question

fio2 · 07/09/2004 12:40

thanks for the link lemonice

bundle i have yet to decide on my design yet. My cousin who is an artist/graphic designer/illustrator has offered to help me if I get stuck, which hopefully I wont!

see it is all very much in the planning stages My husband has his whip out and is making me research and actually do the damn things. Luckily I have managed to get ds a place in a nursery today so, yippee I will actually have some time to myself!

If you are near enough/have time it would be worth going to top drawer in London next week, 12-14 september and see what other people are doing/pick some brains.
tradeshow

tamum · 07/09/2004 14:56

Have absolutely nothing useful to add, just wanted to say ooo, how exciting! I'm dying to hear more.
xx

littlemissbossy · 07/09/2004 15:02

Fio, the website you need for copyright info is www.patent.gov.uk. Good luck!

Dingle · 07/09/2004 19:07

OOh Fio,,, I love crafts, good luck with your new venture.
I have been knitting for years, mainly for friends & family, but have done some larger orders through partys, craft fairs..etc. Did do homework for some of the designers through an agent, but the pay was absolutelt ridiculous considering I wasn't just knitting I was correcting the patterns, working out tensions.etc.
I am more into cardmaking now (although I do still have a loft full of wool to use up at some stage I find the cards easier to pick up and put down, you can also see your acheivements more quickly.
It has always been a dream of mine to have a little artry/crafty business. I truly hope it all comes together for you.
GOOD LUCK

Chinchilla · 07/09/2004 20:56

We should start a Mumsnet on-line shop and all pay towards the web page! I could sell my cards - I'm looking for a way to sell more of them...

Dingle · 07/09/2004 22:36

Me too Chincilla,do the odd craft table at local schools but would love to do more. Perhap Fio will inspire us!
