my husbands firm have just closed. They give you statutory redundancy pay off the government and usually so much redundancy off the firm depending on how long you have been there. Also they give you paid leave for interviews usually

Lets hope it doesnt come to that though jampot

clairabelle · 06/09/2004 14:53

jampot so does mine, which part as dh doesn't seem to think they'll be too many problems.

clarabelle - he works on the new discovery. He called me today to ask if I could find out about factory closure and has heard more than a rumour it could close in about 90 days. I spoke to another friend whose dh works there and he is pals with a top union bloke. My friend thinks it looks ominous.

sorry to hear this jampot. If you look at the acas website www.acas.uk.org and search under redundancy you can download loads of info on redundancy rights. HTH

jampot is he in management or on the shopfloor, my dh works on the new discovery too. My dh has just phoned and said he will be very late as it's all gone pear shaped again!

clairabelle · 06/09/2004 16:34

I think we might start having to think about it then unless dh knows something we don't.

jampot · 06/09/2004 16:44

he is on the shopfloor clairabelle - where is your dh?

In management jampot, he's a principal engineer. TBH I'm afraid I stick my head in the sand about this sort of thing, very silly I know. I'm having a bit of a hot flush thinking about it now. I expect if it closes it will affect everyone. Will there be jobs elsewhere do you think or will there just be blanket redundancies?

jampot · 06/09/2004 17:29

I;ve just spoken to John Taylor (MP for Solihull) and asked his view. He cannot see the factory closing but realises that its not impossible. He says he believes there's an announcement on Wednesday. He is in the House of Commons on Wed and if the announcement is closure then he will be seeing the Secretary of State for Trade & Industry. He did say that if it closed of course there would be redundancies!!!! Statutory minimum I expect!!! Not sure how it would affect businesses outside of LR as if they move new models to Liverpool (as has been intimated) there would be no reason not to use the suppliers already in place. Please can you keep me posted if you hear anything and I will do the same...
