Don't know about getting stains out but how big is the stain and where on the jacket is it - ie could you cover it up with a corsage or another accessory?

SoupDragon · 03/09/2004 16:07

Eeek! Try rubbing something like Vanish into it before washing? Or Oxyclean and handwash? I wouldn't spin it to vigourously for fear of losing the shape.

why did the dry cleaner think that wask=hing might work I wonder? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think you might be stuck with a stained jacket. Unless you go out and by some white dye and dye over the stain. Is it very deep in colour or just faintly orange?

SoupDragon · 03/09/2004 16:21

Depends if you think the jacket's ruined anyway I guess. It's not a delicate fabric, nor is it a colour that's going to fade... I'd certainly be tempted to give it a go.

fio2 · 03/09/2004 16:28

i would have a go at washing it tbh and use staindevils or =vanish or whatever

Blu · 03/09/2004 16:30

Since the jacket is ruined if you CAN'T get the stain out, I would have a go at hand washing it, maybe having put a little bit of the vanish upholstery stuff on it first.
OR, if you have some ordinary washing powder or liquid which is for whites (i.e not 'Colours'), damp the stains a bit, sprinkle on neat washing powder/liquid, leave for about half an hour, then v gently hand rinse out the jacket without screwing or wringing it.

You can get these dry wipe things from tesco, I can't think what they're called but I have some at home maybe 'DeSolve it' they're in a blue box, you can use them on dry clean only as well. I got a lot of blood out of something with them last week. They're very good!!

tiredemma · 03/09/2004 16:52

oh my god.... its only bloody working!! dry cleaners , what do theyknow eh? ( you watch, ill put it in the machine now and the arms will fall off or something, might still be shoehorning myself into that size 6 suit still...)

Wash it with cold water!!! other wise you can fix the stain more or get the outfit shrunk

aloha · 03/09/2004 17:02

It'll be hot tomorrow. You won't need a jacket. If it works, great, if not, wear a dress.

tiredemma · 03/09/2004 17:04

all done, ive just swilled it under the cold tap and now its drying outside, not going to risk the washing machine in case it shrinks!!
thanks ladies

just thought of a tip I was given recently. Put it in the sunshine! The sun apparently will take the colour out of the stain.

Easy · 03/09/2004 18:30

I've used the carpet & upholstery cleaner on clothes before, (tomato pasta suace, pale mint green shirt).

Squirted it on, left 5 mins, washed with bio detergent. Worked a treat.

tiredemma - If the jacket is deemed unwearable anyway then you haven't got much to lose. I always find oxy clean good plus the old stain devils but recently since reading the "how clean is your house" book they swear by soda crystals which you just chuck a load in to the drum of the washing machine. Good luck

MancMum · 04/09/2004 21:28

could you not wear a large corsage over some of the stained bits and carry a bag over the rest?

tiredemma · 05/09/2004 19:18

hurrah, the stain came out and i wore the suit yesterday, had a great day, bride looked beautiful and weather was fantastic, dont know why i was so worried- a lot of women there just turned up in jeans !!!
three cheers for vanish carpet cleaner!!
