He always sleeps with it. He is going ballistic. Nursery is closed. Am I in for a night of crying? He's 2 yrs old - should we take opportunity to go cold turkey?? I have a mobile number for one of the grls that works at nursery or is that a bit OTT? Oh poor ds2 he is really quite upset.

can you tell him teddy is having a sleepover with the nursery animals and is having a great time? would he buy that

NoodleStroodle · 26/06/2007 18:57

Teddy has gone on a sleepover with some of the other toys from nursery as he knew you would be grown up without him. I forgot to tell you this morning that Teddy asked me to tell you that puppy/dinosaur/rag doll need a cuddle tonight and tomorrow you can hear all about his adventures

SoupDragon · 26/06/2007 18:58

Cold turkey I think. It's only 1 night. Explain it as SEAstra says.

TrinityRhino · 26/06/2007 18:58

personally I would ring the girl that works there but I am soft when it comes to comfort objects

wishingfourgotone · 26/06/2007 18:59

Have you got a different teddy? could you say that teddy feeling sad not geting cuddles like ds2 would if you only gave cuddles too dc1, might work?

PinkTulips · 26/06/2007 19:01

what southeastastra said.... teddy's having a holiday and won't it be fun to hear all about it tomorrow.

dd went without hers overnight as he's been thrown up on and needed washing and it was all ok once we explained he'd be back tomorrow and what fun he was having

(whoops, that should be she, teddy is apparently called Sophie as of yeaterday )

Thanks everyone. Have told him teddy is at nursery and ds1 has given up his special teddy (for now anyway!). He is crying intermittently now but beginning to settle.
Nursery didn't give him a sleep today either so don't know why it was even out of his bag. Who knows, if it goes ok tonight perhaps it is time to say goodbye to teddy...

strawberry, he's only 2, why would you want to take the teddy away permanently?

i'm 23 and still have my favourite teddy lurking around my bedroom!

i read an article that said kids with comfort objects are more confidant and settle better at school

TrinityRhino · 26/06/2007 20:51

please dont take his teddy away
pleeease
I feel for him that he is having to miss it for tonight
please let him have it, he's onlt little

Strawberry, dts1 (5 1/2) still has his Wolfie, a little toy wolf he got from Dynamic Earth several years ago. He always sleeps with it and would be so upset if anything happened to it.

Not long after he first got it he left it in a shop, over 1 1/2 hours drive away.

We had to go back and get it, lucky for us it was late night shopping!

Like the sleepover idea, I hope they are reunited soon!

wishingfourgotone · 27/06/2007 10:36

strawberry How did you cope without teddy last night?

strawberry · 27/06/2007 12:46

Ds2 and teddy have been reunited - hooray!
Not as bad as I expected in the night. Some whimpering but a cuddle soon settled him.
