Is Yahoo spying on my text messages?

I realized that Facebook was almost certainly spying on my texts when a friend sent me a text mentioning The Big Bang Theory sitcom, something I never watch and have never previously mentioned in any digital communication. When I logged onto Facebook the next day an ad came up for The Big Bang Theory, which I've never seen an ad for before. I've now deleted Facebook from my phone.

Earlier today I texted a friend a photo of sanitary towels, as she had very kindly said she would get some for me while at the supermarket, and I was showing her what type I wanted. Then this evening I logged onto my yahoo email and immediately saw an advert for Thinx knickers, saying "Period proof underwear". I don't know whether it's just coincidence or whether yahoo is spying on my texts. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?

I think it's phones In general that spy. I was talking to my mum about going to Mothercare to buy a new car seat for dd because she's grown out of her old one. The next day I saw an ad for a car seat on Facebook. I did not message her, or anyone else about the car seat. I didn't search car seat in the mothercare app (I don't even have the app) and I didn't search it in google. Literally the only way it would of picked it up was if it listened to my convo. This has happened to numerous people I know.

You need a non-smart phone if you don't want this to happen. Siri/Google is always listening and every time you browse online shops,it's remembering what you looked at.

horsesheep, Gosh, that's creepy. Can I ask, please, do you have facebook on your phone? Facebook definitely listens to conversations. I think you might be right though about phones in general spying. Appalling that it's legal!

@JessicaCH yep, I have both the Facebook and messenger app installed. You're right, it is appalling! I don't know why this is allowed.
