GOURANGA!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been meaning to ask you lot this for ages! I keep seeing "GOURANGA" around the place, especially on bridges, usually in day-glo type colours
DS1 pointed it out and asked what it meant, and its been driving me potty since - we googled but to no avail

Anyone have a clue what it means or am I destined to a sad, unfulfilled life?

Isn't it probably someone's 'tag'? Is it graffiti-style? Or have I totally got the wrong end of this stick?

I think it's the Hari Krishna's catchphrase. I was approached by one in the street and asked for money and when I wouldn't give him any, he said "well can you say "Gouranga" for me then..." I refused to and he said "It just means 'Be happy'" SO there you go....

xoz is right - it is the Hare Krishna lot. DD1 gave them some money in the street and got a little booklet about it.

(Am no wiser though really!)

sort-of explanation

Lisa78 · 31/08/2004 21:01

Hmmm, so is it wise to stick it on bridges and distract hapless motorists such as me?
thanks guys!

Thanks for that link JanH, at least now I understand a bit more about it too. I always thought it was a bit weird that they ask you to say it. I always felt like that bloke, uncomfortable about saying it and leaving the conversation rudely. I don't usually like to be rude, but I less like saying things which I don't understand their full meaning!!!

Chandra · 31/08/2004 21:39

I would have sweared it was the name of the bridges' builder. It's everywhere!!!

JJ · 31/08/2004 21:41

Thank you! Now I feel like I've learned something instead of feeling a bit clueless and out of touch.

Lisa78 · 31/08/2004 21:41

So glad you said that Chandra - I thought that but didn't like to say incase everyone laughed at me!
