Can you park on single yellow lines on a bank holiday?

I did and have received a £40 fine. I seriously thought that you could park on a single yellow line and was so shocked to find a ticket. I am seriously p**d off as well as I could have done without it TBH as have spent a lot on dd's party, presentsthis week etc.:(

I do sympathise, blossomhill - I would have assumed that a single yellow line was OK on a bank holiday too. Will look for what sign says in future!

went through a similar thing about 9 months ago...I was doing a market with my gardening job and my colleague had told me to park next to waitrose...so I did, in the disabled spot,,noone said you couldn't park there with a permit, so I did and got a £40 fine.

I did actually write to the council and explain my situation and they said a disabled spot was a disabled spot and nothing else....it's woth a go but personally I think you'll be wasting your time as any line indicates no parking unless unloading or loading ...expensive lesson to learn

erm when you park there for 4 hours without a permit it is just as unlawful!

Disabled spots are only for those who have a blue badge, to enable registered disabled people to get to and from the places they are going to easily. There is NO excuse, imo, for a non disabled person nabbing one, and I think the council was quite right.

Well not really in that the parking restrictions signs will let you know if it's ok to park or not in a single yellow line area. It's double yellows that are a complete no-no.

er no a yellow line obviously doesn't mean you can park there (why are there roads with no lines on and consequently they have lots of cars on) find a space without any lines at all times and then you wont be caught out

I thought you weren't allowed to park on yellow times during certain times, you should be allowed to on bank holidays IMO. I think you learnt the hard way blossomhill, I have been caught out myself with a change in parking restrictions but I am so careful since!

We've been caught out on this before - our misconception was to assume that rules on bank holidays were the same as Sundays - they're not...

The difference between a disabled spot and a single yellow line is that you CAN park on a single yellow line at certain times (usually on Sundays and other days after around 7) but you CAN'T park in a disabled spot EVER unless you're disabled with an appropriate permit.

Common sense really. Even a parking space with no lines isn't safe though - it may be a resident's only parking bay. You should always look for signs and they should always be easy to see (they're not always though).
