I did and have received a £40 fine. I seriously thought that you could park on a single yellow line and was so shocked to find a ticket. I am seriously p**d off as well as I could have done without it TBH as have spent a lot on dd's party, presentsthis week etc.:(

Lavender - I thought you wanted to let it lie! :( Disabled parking spots are NOT from people without parking permits, ragardless of whether they are empty or not.And anyone who parks in them deserves being fined there and then. Sorry, I thought you were maybe picking picked on a bit too much early but now this. :( Why???

Hulababy · 31/08/2004 22:53

And yes there are always disasters going on and innocent victims being hurt or killed - but not really relevamt in this thread is it?

iota · 31/08/2004 22:54

Lavender - at my local Tescos there are dozens of Disabled spaces, which are never full - hence my question earlier down the list - if there are loads of empty disabled spaces and you are only going to be a few minutes, I don't think it's a heinous crime to park in a disabled space, as you are obviously not going to inconvenience anyone.

joanneg · 31/08/2004 22:54

lavender - issues are all relative. Sometimes events happen in the world that do put things into prespective, but knowing that some people on here are disabled/have disabled loved ones, aren't your comments just designed to get peoples backs up?

Hulababy · 31/08/2004 22:55

BUT if everyone thopught like that then they'd quickly fill up and someone with a legitamte badge may not get parked.

codswallop · 31/08/2004 22:55

LAVENDER YOU ARE TKAING HTE MICK
any way who is the market trader? god?

lavender1 · 31/08/2004 23:00

I do, people have had a go at me just wanted to explain why people do park in disabled spots....because they do and they are not used to their full capacity...I am letting it lie but why shouldn't I have my say when plenty of people have judged me.....I won't write anymore btw but feel that these spaces are underused and should be used if necessary...tell me someone who has never parked in a disabled spot....many people have but wont care to admit it....night

CAN WE PLEASE LET THIS THREAD DIE

blossomhill · 31/08/2004 23:02

I only wondered if you could park on a yellow line on a bank holiday. Didn't mean it to cause all of this trouble

Don't worry about it blossamhill. Many of us have started seemingly innocent threads that have gone on to become rather off the point!

lavender1 · 31/08/2004 23:03

am just getting own back after being dug at! (am going now but only fair to say my piece)

joanneg · 31/08/2004 23:03

not your fault blossomhill! Think the answer was you cant park on single lines unless the sign says so.

lavender1 · 31/08/2004 23:04

I have a question, the campus of the University I attended was pedestrianised, the only ones who had access to the internal parking area where people with the blue badge, once while going out of a lecture (with an stampeed of about 200+ students coming out of the same lecture theatre) I was almost run over by a blue badge owner who didn't want to wait for the people to move out of his way, he just went in reverse with no warning, he hit me but slowly so not much damage but didn't even open the window to apologise, he seemed to be very annoyed and in a hurry.

3 years later a friend was victim of a hit and run by a blue badger in the same campus, the woman did not even stop to see what had happened to her (she got a broken leg).

Even though I'm sure these are EXCEPTIONS, and I get very angry at people who park at blue spaces without a badge, what do you do in these cases? when a blue badger abuses his/her rights?

onlyjoking9329 · 31/08/2004 23:40

i have children with disabilities and parking is a nightmare for us cos of people abusing the disabled parking spaces, i would just love to wheel clamp them and leave a note saying, now you know what its like to have mobility problems,
instead i have made some little cards that say , ignorance lazyness and a bad attitude are not recognised disabilities kindly park elsewhere.

Chandra · 31/08/2004 23:44

That's a very good idea Onlyjoking, we can also do some for parent&baby parking spaces saying somethin like baby passengers can use these spaces, baby drivers please refrain...

JJ · 31/08/2004 23:46

Chandra, in your case, because only blue badgers (ok, I've got a weird picture in my mind, but soldiering on) have access to the parking spaces, only blue badgers will have the accidents. It's not because of the badge that you got hit, it's because a certain proportion out of every driving population is crap at driving and an arsehole to boot.

So, I'd yell at them like I'd yell at anyone else. If they can drive, they should drive without hitting pedestrians. And they can, but some people just don't care.

Chandra · 31/08/2004 23:52

I know the one who hit me was a blue badger as he always parked in the same space out of the theatre and was also in my class. But, someway, I felt bad about yelling at him because he had a disability.

JJ · 31/08/2004 23:59

Chandra, but you shouldn't! Everyone who drives a car should be able to drive a car without hitting pedestrians, blue badge or not. I don't think that's at all controversial.

If it happens again, treat him like a driver. Take his plate numbers and report him.

spacemonkey · 01/09/2004 00:01

Agree with JJ. He'd probably feel quite insulted that you didn't feel able to shout at him because he has a disability!
