how do I check if my washing machine pump is blocked?

machine broke down about 6 months ago, called out engineer (machine still under guarantee) and he found a tiny piece of Lego in the pump which stopped the machine spinning. My fault, apparently, and he charged me 80 euros for 10 mins work. The same bloody thing seems to have happened again - how can I unblock it myself, or is it impossible?

TIA and all advice gratefully received

have you still got the instructions booklet?

There should be a filter by the pump that can be unscrewed. You're lucky it was Lego. I found a missing sock in mine!

the instructions booklet will tell you where that is, mine's at the bottom right and i empty it occasionally

cheers. Will try it tomorrow. Am so cross with myself but have been so busy lately that I have been lax with the pocket checking thing! Instruction booklet in every language except English but seem to remember last time it recommended calling out the engineer. Brilliant

BUT am now thinking that as the water drains away but machine does not spin, it may not be the pump after all. The drum seems rather wobbly - this isn't right is it? At least that would be under guarantee!

Does not spin suggests a motor problem
