A nice one?
DP reckons £500 at least?

Depends where you want to get one from - if you're looking at a 'high-street' shop like Burtons then it shouldn't be more than 150-200. Obviously it'll change depending on where you go.

krocket · 29/08/2004 11:36

He wants one from a better shop than that I think. I just have no idea how much they cost. I'm in trouble for spending money and he's complaining that we don't have enough left to buy him a decent suit.

Well if money's tight, tell him suits from Burtons are perfectly decent - but decide what you think is fair for a suit and leave it up to him to find one for that price - so he can go to a 'cheaper' shop and buy one or find one on sale in a 'dearer' shop - his choice.

what about M&S? have a look at their website. also debenhams, house of fraser, john lewis...

Hulababy · 29/08/2004 11:43

You can also get decent suits for less than £200 from M&S, Next, etc. He'll only need to spend £500 if he goes to somewhere like Austin Reed.

DH has loads of suits for work and even he won't buy the expensive ones anymore. They don't last any longer than the cheaper ones if hthey are being worn day in, day out...and theyall go in and out of fashion anyway so still have to be replaced.

Branster · 29/08/2004 11:46

agree hulababy. i seem to remember m&S do some italian stuff as well so worth a look. and house of fraser definetly used to have a decent selection.

Spanna2 · 29/08/2004 11:50

My DP always gets his from NEXT...you can get a decent one for £110.

krocket · 29/08/2004 11:55

actually i heard something on the radio ages ago about how men's m&s suits were some of the best made. personally I think he is being a bit snobbish about it

we got dh a really nice one fom next for £200

DelGirl · 29/08/2004 13:13

My DH used to spend about 3/400 on his suits. The suit company used to do some good ones and they have good sales too iirc.

granarybeck · 29/08/2004 16:39

if you can get to a factory outlet place, stores like the suit company do suits for 2-300 reduced from around 500. maybe that would be a compromise for him.

Easy · 29/08/2004 16:43

I take dh to a very smart 'Gentleman's outfitter' in nottingham. A good suit comes in at between £350-£500.

Worth the extra money tho' as generally they last longer than the standard M&S or Burton's suit, which lose their shape in a few months.

fisil · 29/08/2004 16:49

DP used to go for really expensive £500, but now he generally goes to M&S at around £250. He always gets two pairs of trousers as he always goes through the bum quickly - that way he gets more wear out of them!

posyhairdresser · 29/08/2004 17:37

How it fits makes it nice or not - he can probably get bespoke from around £800.

If not then best to try on lots of styles from different makes to find the best fit.

Dp always gets 2 pairs of trousers with a suit - this works out cheaper as he doesn't wear the jackets except with clients/ in meetings.

krocket · 29/08/2004 19:13

well after all the palavar he took the two suits he has (which are v expensive ones that were bought for him as best man for 2 weddings) and he's having the waste band altered, tee hee, so its not just me that could do with losing a few pounds.

I'd love to have a suit made for me though.
