hahahahahahahaha

my dad

We only got one thing and it took about a year to build. Have avoided it ever since as just can't deal with it at all!

libb · 27/08/2004 16:53

I did the whole nursery when 8.5 months pregnant - love doing it! which is just as well because DP never will . . .

Hulababy · 27/08/2004 16:57

Me! I always do them with DH's help to hold anything that is too large for one person.

anorak · 27/08/2004 17:10

Me. Dh doesn't have a clue.

JanH · 27/08/2004 18:01

Me. DH has the spatial skills of a rhinoceros.

anorak · 27/08/2004 18:02

But he is good at putting up tents

bran · 27/08/2004 18:03

I am the brains and dh is the brawn.

JanH · 27/08/2004 18:05

He is, anorak, I was thinking that as I followed your post, but you have to remember that a tent can face in any direction and is generally in the middle of an extremely large field

emsiewill · 27/08/2004 18:08

Me.

Dh helps when it is impossible to do on my own (eg bunk beds), but otherwise it is always me. He says he wouldn't know where to start - and I'm sure he's happy with it that way.

DH and DS with his Bob the Builder tool set (he's 4). I am totally clueless, a real girlpants and can only just change a light bulb!! Shame on me!

libb · 27/08/2004 18:13

anorak, my DP only does tents too! too many years at festivals I think . . .

Davros · 27/08/2004 19:33

Don't Ikea give you numbers of people who will do it if you want? If its a Billy I'll do it but DH and I both worked for 2hrs once on a desk. I got a "handyman" to do DS's MFI bed (which was turned to dust years ago) and have also bought second hand stuff like bed for DS that is already assembled. Flat pack stinks though, its always such a chore.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/08/2004 19:53

me if i can get to it first as i quite enjoy it (apart from when bits missing) and unlike dh read the instructions and do it calmly and slowly thus avoiding turning the air blue and giving myself high blood pressure!

dh has been known to get the black and decker out when things dont fit in holes (as he hasn't read instructions)

Davros · 27/08/2004 20:03

My DH will resort to power tools and making "better" holes. But he does have an allen key attachment which is better than doing it manually. My BIL once bought a "wardrobe" from Argos as he and SIL were renting and just wanted some hanging space. He went off upstairs with it and an hour later came down and put the lot in the dustbin, not a word was uttered!

Tommy · 27/08/2004 20:03

Definitely DH in this house. He loves doing them and it makes him really happy so it makes me happy too (also, I can't be bothered)

DH - I would make a complete hash of anything like that!

nutcracker · 27/08/2004 22:15

Well dp actually does the physical part and i do the mental bit i.e sit there and say 'are you sure that goes there

He put our unit from Ikea together the other night, started it at 7pm finnished it at 11pm. He also knocked a tack through the backboard but luckily you can't see where.

I did put Ds's flat pack wooden highchair together and i was well pleased with myself

poppyseed · 27/08/2004 22:50

DH definitely. Always a load of swearing and complaints that we should have bought the more expensive one thayt would have been better. I keep out of the way and amuse the kids! Safe that way....

lydialemon · 27/08/2004 23:06

About 75% of the time its me, but DH did all the wardrobes in our room. I am the drawer queen however!

Polgara2 · 27/08/2004 23:12

DH does all that - he's very good at all that practical stuff - not like me - but does prefer it if we don't 'help' him!!

Gingerbear · 28/08/2004 00:57

He WONT follow instructions at all, so like bran, I do the thinking and he does the heavy stuff.

Often ends in a sulk (one or both of us)

Just been to Ikea today, and finished the storage unit at midnight!!
