Nervous about scuba - anyone else?

My husband is a scuba enthusiast and now that we live in thailand it's the ideal opportunity for him to indulge himself - however it's a problem that we can't share this together as i can't scuba.
when we went on the great barrier reef I snorkelled wearing the BCD as I couldn't swim very well at the time.

I can now swim much better but am not confident as i should be in the water. the other day I had a 1 hour practise with scuba equipment in a swimming pool and found it to be relatively simple but I can't imagine being in the ocean like that but much deeper.

I want to do the PADI course but am worried about panicking once I'm out there - anyone else know the same? should I go ahead?

I did a Padi gold course when I was living in Australia. I was terrified of fish but reckoned that if I didn't take the opportunity to dive on the Barrier Reef I would always forget it. I would say, do the course, it'll build up your confidence, my training was excellent. If, when the time comes, you are still a little nervous then maybe you can 'buddy' with an instructor or your husband who is aware of the potential problem. Remember that you don't actually have to go very deep to see some wonderful creatures, maybe you could just shallow dive. Possibly avoid cave diving and night diving to begin with until your confidence is up, but really, just relax and enjoy.
