I don't know if anyone will read this or have a reply but I'm trying to find out some information about my grandads time in the army in WW2, he was a bomb disposal expert and it's something my dads really proud of. The only thing is he never spoke about it because of something he witnessed during his time serving. I want to put together a bit of frame for my dad that includes his personnel number and maybe his emblem (I'm rubbish at remembering what it's all called) etc. Does anyone know where I could find information I need if possible? TIA x

Bumping for you

You can get quite a bit of information from Ancestry and Find My Past and both give an initial free two weeks trial as does Forces War Records. I got some of mine from the Imperial War Musem site. You may be able to get reports if he was mentioned in dispatches.

You can find out the Service Number, Regiment etc and from there get an idea of where they served. When you know the Regiment you could get a cap badge?

Thankyou @Aridane much appreciated xx

@whiteroseredrose I'm a member of ancestory site but it just doesn't seem to find anything ever for me, I'm so confused using it full stop lol. I will give the other ones a try though thank you very much xxx

@mumof2sarah, you could re-post this in the Family History topic www.mumsnet.com/Talk/family_history where lots of genealogists hang out!
