Another Ebay question

I have looked at all the ebay threads but cant find the answer.

I have just sold my first item (hooray). It is a xbox game. I specified that I will only except paypal. How long until I know my buyer has paid? Do e-bay/paypal e-mail me? Also on my seller screen there is this INVOICE tab. Should I invoice my buyer and then they pay by paypal?

Also I have a jiffy bag to send my item (obviously once they have paid) Is this good enough protection for the product in the post? It has little bubbles on the inside.

Thanks

send an invoice so they know how much to pay you in total including postage and packaging. They can pay you without the invoice but it just helps to remind them that they have to pay you. It will say when you look up on the ebay item that it has been paid for and you should be emailed saying you've been paid.

I usually use those jiffy bags when I send off games, so should be okay.

Congratulations on your first sale!!

Thanks tammy. Must admit I am overjoyed about selling this as I never wanted the game and got it free with my xbox. btw have a nice holiday!

thanks now think of all the money you can make selling all your unwanted things

juniperDewdrop · 26/08/2004 17:25

congrats from me too I've just had my first sale but not been paid yet.

tammybear · 26/08/2004 17:29

well done juniperdewdrop too! if they dont pay up in 3 days time, you can send them a payment reminder. but hopefully, they'll pay up soon

charliecat · 26/08/2004 17:37

Ask for a certificate of posting at the P.O, its insurance up to 28 pounds and it doent cost a penny. Oh and paypal will email you.

batey · 26/08/2004 17:57

I've just bought my first thing on ebay too. Can someone tell me what "no reserve" means on items?

tammybear · 26/08/2004 17:59

when someone puts a reserve on an item, you have to bid over that amount to be able to win the item. if it says no reserve that means that they will just accept the winning bid

well done too!

nutcracker · 26/08/2004 18:00

Can I ask a quick question too please

I won a dress for Dd1 last week. It said that I would recieve an email from the seller but i didn't. I have emailed her to ask for an address for me to send the cheque too, but she hasn't replied.
It says that her address is not on ebays files.

What do i do now ??

tammybear · 26/08/2004 18:02

sounds a bit dodgy, have you paid anything yet?

charliecat · 26/08/2004 18:02

Have a look on your my ebay page, go to the items won bit and click on PAY NOW...tick the box that your going to pay by, paypal, cheque P.O or whatever and the next page should have her address. Ebay definetly should have her address.

nutcracker · 26/08/2004 18:04

Right i'll go look again CC.

No I haven't paid yet TB as i don't know where to send cheque to.

charliecat · 26/08/2004 18:05

OK NC

tammybear · 26/08/2004 18:07

oh yeah, sorry my brains not working properly. like cc said, if you say you're going to pay by cheque it should come up with her address to send it to her. sometimes they'll have their phone number up too

nutcracker · 26/08/2004 18:14

Right i did what you said and there is an address on there but also a note in big red letters telling me to ask her for her address as ebay donot have one on file.

I also don't know who to make the cheque payable too, so have emailed again through ebay to check address and ask who to make cheque out too.

Thanks CC and TB

Hope the dress is genuine now, it was a Jasper Conran one and i got it for 2.74 including postage

charliecat · 26/08/2004 18:16

Cough Splutter...2.74? lol...Is the red writing her note or ebays...whatever shes up to is a bit silly, I mean why not just have her proper address there????

tammybear · 26/08/2004 18:30

oooo, lets just hope she'll get in contact with you. if not, you can leave her negative feedback if you havent heard from her in ages

Piffleoffagus · 26/08/2004 19:11

also make sure you give them the option to pay via paypal straight from the invoice
HTH

joanneg · 27/08/2004 15:43

Hi guys another question. How much does Ebay make on your purchase? How do they take the money?
thanks

Nutcracker - I have found in the past that when I have won an item for a real bargain price very occasionally the seller seems reluctant to get in touch. It is as if they expected the item to go for a higher price and so they avoid the buyer in the hope that you will give up and they won't have to accept less than they wanted for said item. Persevere in contacting seller! They are obligated to sell it to you! If you have heard nothing after a week I would notify ebay of the failure of transaction.

BooMama · 27/08/2004 16:30

joanneg - are you asking as a seller or buyer?
The seller pays all the ebay costs. It's been a little while since I last sold anything but I think they invoice you monthly with the total of the fees (ie listing fees and final value fee). I then just paid out of my paypal account. I can't remember how I did it before I set up paypal!
