Is anyone a whizz kid on Excel?

Dd was messing around on the computer earlier and has done something to it. I can't figure out what's going on. When I click on a field it seems to lock it and if I move the cursor across it highlights the boxes. There's a huge white cross showing on the box. I can't figure out how to exit.

Has anyone the faintest idea what I'm talking about?

Press the scroll lock button on your keyboard towards the top right!

It's not click lock.

You might also have click lock on too....so check that as per my instructions below!

Yes its scroll lock. You just need to work out how to unscroll lock on your keyboard. On mine its press Fn & press Scr Lk

would the wheel on the mouse do that if it was stuck down?

Yes, that's number lock (not a problem) and scroll lock(problem). You may have a scroll key which has been clicked in error, depends on yr keyboard

Reboot hasn't worked. I have pressed F8

BUT it no longer keeps scrolling as I move the mouse around.

Now I can click on individual cells and they get highlighted. When I click on a different cell the one I just clicked on remains highlighted.

Bottom right now says ADD

F8 was the answer.

I watched the bottom right corner. Kept pressing F8 and the text changed, when it was blank I tried and bingo.
