I could be wrong it just seems very odd....

My dp is selling his car in auto trader and got an email from someone asking info and saying he wanted it. It was worded weirdly and we decided it was either and older or foreign person (but they have a co.uk address) and most of the info they asked for was in the advert. dp replied to the email giving the details and go reply back saying that he would pay the asking price and arrange a bankers draft. Then he would get his shipping company to collect the car. Oh and he would give an extra £200 for our trouble and effort and not selling it to anyone else ok a bit weird but we thought ok as long as we make sure the money is in the bank before anyone takes the car we should be ok?

And then this morning we had another email from another person in the same font worded differently but very similar............just a coincidence or something fishy????

I'd really appreciate some veiws on this - are we just being too cynical?

Nbg · 13/06/2007 12:20

wonder if they are doing it to see if you are offering to other people since they have said they will give you an extra £200.

sammysam · 13/06/2007 12:39

Thanks dp has just come home for lunch and his bosses friend works for trading standards and says he hasn't heard of this one but that it does sound like a scam and said that the bank can take 2 wks to clear a draft if it seems dodgy. so he said to make sure it clears.

dp will reply asking why extra money and about what he knows and we'll go from there....will not give any details away tho

Sorry doesn't make sence i'm multi tasking-typing and breastfeeding!

Scam and bankers drafts can be bought in a pub for £50...

NotQuiteCockney · 13/06/2007 12:41

Sounds scammy. Bankers drafts can be forged - they will go into your account, the bank will give you the money, then take it away a few weeks later when they realise it's a fake ... by which point the car is long gone ...

moopymoo · 13/06/2007 12:43

scam scam we had similar email when selling a car on ebay. ignore ignore

SoupDragon · 13/06/2007 12:43

It's a scam! Don't even consider it. 2 emails from different people offering the same dodgy deal??

sammysam · 13/06/2007 13:16

if we reply we'll only accept cash on collection.
