Hi, my daughter uses msn messenger a lot now and I was wondering if it was possible to view the messengers that people send to her. I don't want to be nosey, I just worry about any nasty characters who could be trying to befriend her. Thanks .

There is a log of conversations, but I think it may be possible to turn it off - I'll have a quick ferret & see if I can locate it.

yes, you can save all messages automatically, but I don't know how, and messenger isn't working on this computer so I can't check for you. But there definitely is a way.

if you go to tools, then options and messages, there is an option to tick "automatically keep a record of my conversations"

on my pc they get saved in my received files,

rantinghousewife · 12/06/2007 20:05

Go to tools, options, messages, there is a box that says 'Automatically keep history of convos' or some such, put a tick in it.

Opps, sorry x posted.

Found mine - they are in My Documents/My Recieved Files/[My MSN Username]/History.
But presumably there's nothing to stop your DD deleting them if she wants to/knows how.

fryalot · 12/06/2007 20:06

I presume that if you've got windows xp and she has her own identity on the computer, you will need to do this on her id - but save them to yours, or shared files

fryalot · 12/06/2007 20:06

if you're worried about her deleting them, save them to a password protected file

AttilaTheMum · 12/06/2007 20:07

Yeah - if she gets there first squonk.....!

SugaryBits · 12/06/2007 20:08

Even if you haven't selected to keep a record of conversations on MSN, there should still be a log on your computer, I think! If you go to My Documents, My Received Files, then there should be folders with a log named by the person she is speaking to with copies of the conversations.

JodieG1 · 12/06/2007 20:20

I don't think it logs the conversations unless you tell it to.

Browny · 12/06/2007 20:50

Thanks everyone for your help, I've ticked the box to save conversations to my documents file. You are a very clever lot you know!!
