Okay don't mistake this as a post from a troll because of the lateness of the hour, and the subject matter...(and I've used a different name to my usual one because....well would you want to post under your proper name???!!!)

You might think its wierd that I am posting this, but frankly where else do you go for advice on this problem (its not something I would even discuss with my best friend, and she knows lots of other intimate secrets). There is something a bit tragi-comedy about this...but I've got spots on my bum!!!

I've had these more or less all my adult life since I was a teenager. They've always affected my body image and how I feel about sex, and I've had enough and want to get rid of them.

Anyone know what causes this and how to 'cure' them? I wear cotton underwear, shower daily, change underwear daily, have no spots anywhere else on my body....

And please resist the urge to poke fun at my expense...

Could it be folliculitis, sb? I have had that - not on my bum as such but in other uncomfortable places...have you seen your GP? Tried antibiotics?

Thanks for that suggestion Jan. I'm not confident it would be folliculitis though, because I've had this problem chronically for such a long time and isn't folliculitis an infection of the hair follicles ? - and I haven't got a hairy bum, just a spotty one

We have hair - and follicles - everywhere except palms of hands and soles of feet so it is possible...worth asking about if only to eliminate and look for something else?

Fair point. I'll pluck up courage and ask next time I am at GPs (tend to go fairly regularly with the children!)

Could it be an allergy to soap, or something in the shower gel?

JanH · 24/08/2004 12:24

I just googled it and found "Other common sites for folliculitis are the arms, legs, armpits and buttocks" here.

Mind you it also says it's usually self-clearing... ???

i had spots on my back that i couldn't get rid of and since using body shop's body scub with body mitt then their body butter they have gone. nothing else had ever really worked. i think if you avoid moisturising where there are spots your body produces more oil and its a vicious circle. so though i was wary about the body butter it has worked. other than that if you could be really brave i'd go to the doc's, if they could solve it it would be worth it.

Thanks - as well as checking it out with the GP I will definitely give the body scrub and body mit approach a go granarybeck
