Hello all!!

I seriously need some advise. My long term boyfriend and I have decided to get married next year. We're not going to include anyone else in this, (not even a white dress as we've already got kids and we're on a budget), just us getting married in front of our two best mates (who are also a couple). Everywhere you look there are packages that we don't need! We live in Leeds so want to get married and then nip for a curry and go off for a dance into the night.

Does anyone know where to start?? We just want to be married and then reveal it as a big surprise to our families.

Any advice?

Thanks lovely people!! Xxx

Google gave me this:

www.leeds.gov.uk/residents/births-deaths-and-marriages/ceremonies/ceremonies-at-leeds-town-hall

Apparently you can do it for under £100 on some days.

Rule number 1, don't tell anyone. Only the two witnesses of course.

We booked the registry office the first available date which was 3 months away.
Got something nice to wear, got wed then went to the pub, had a nice meal and that was that.

We told family a week before not thinking anyone would turn up but the registry office was packed to the rafters!

Was fab. And cheep.

Get to your local council and ask where the registry office is (will probably be on the same site as the council offices). Then make an appointment at the registry office that you intend to marry and pick a date, I think the minimum time allowed between this meeting and getting married is 31 days.

Our registry office wedding cost £50 and went to the pub afterwards. 2 friends as witnesses.

Good luck and congratulations!

Great idea! Can’t help with the logistics but we were lucky enough to be the witnesses to exactly such a wedding (we were only guests) and it was so so romantic and amazing! The couple had a registry office ceremony then we had an amazing boozy lunch somewhere, it was awesome. Enjoy!
